assistance (what is a thread and how do I enter my first post.)

I am new to this site and i just want to say that this site seems pretty cool i have lime wire and it seems to be doing ok for now ive seen some of tha problems people have been having. i Just have one question! The license for the songs whats up with that does it matter what songs i download? how will i know if that particular song has a license ? if i could get an answer to that question i think i would be sitting on high mountain cuz like i said im new to all of this and im just learning now!!!!!!!!! thanks
