I have been having a problem using Xolox while Zone Alarm is running. My puter's resources always shoot to a "Dangerously low level" and everthing virtually freezes. If I wait long enough I can sometimes shut down ZA and everthing works fine. Not running ZA works the best of course. I have tried setting ZA security levels to low and/or medium, turned off logging of alarms, made sure access to Xolox is granted, etc. - no luck
Anyone have similar probs? solutions? (other than don't use ZA) System is: Mobo - ASUS A7V266 CPU - AMD thunderbird 900 @1008Mhz Micron Ram 256mb Graphics - Geforce256 pro IBM HD 30G Thanks in Advance CQL

ZA is a massive resource hog. If you're up to learning a little about configuring a firewall you should try using Kerio Personal Firewall. It's free and has a very tiny footprint. You can find alot of support for it at http://www.dslreports.com/forum/kerio
Have fun! |

Using ZA doesn't seem to interfere with any other programs, 84% resources free when just on the desktop, resources only drop in combination with xolox. Easiest thing i guess is to just shut it off when using xolox.

not sure if its meant to have been resolved or not but there was a problem running xolox v1.12 with ZoneAlarm previously. the two conflicted for some reason. i think that there should be older threads that discussed it although i'm not sure how relevant they are to v1.18

I have ran my own tests using Zonealarm and found that with network setting to medium there was no problem connecting with XoloX ( although it does take a bit longer to find nodes being firewalled ). As far as resources go, it was nothing out of the ordinary and ZA itself is a hog. If you set your level of security to high ( not talking about the internet zone setting) then you will likely get a 'socketdata' error since it can't connect.
I guess each system is different, but I imagine if you can't connect or are having problem using XoloX with Zone Alarm you simply have your firewall configured poorly. |
