Red face Format Question

What is avi format? When I search for movies to download and burn, windows media player 11 series does not support that format. Does anyone know what player does? ex. quicktime? Also, when the movie is download onto the comp, after I burn to a cd, will it play in full tv screen of small like on the com?

Appreciate all help.

bellebeau - download VLC player and see if the file will play. It has most codecs installed and will play most file types. If VLC won't play it, you more than likely have an invalid (fake) file.

vms - AVI is just one type of video format. It is more compressed than DVD format and doesn't do dark colors as well. You could also try VLC player. You can burn AVI movies directly to disc, but many DVD players will not play them. Check the specs on your DVD player (or look for the DivX logo on the front). I bought a player that plays AVI movies for about $30. The movies sometimes appear very small, though. (Most appear slightly smaller than a widescreen shot). Most people, I believe (myself included), encode their movies to DVD format, which can be played on most players. Some encoders will allow you to reformat the size of the movie to your taste. Check out this website for information on encoding and burning to disk:

Good Luck
