For view options you do just that. Go to LW's menu & View & Show/Hide. Here you'll see Library window etc.
I'm not sure why you were so concerned about people browsing your shared folders. They're there for sharing aren't they? Only share files you want to share. Your shared folders are listed in your Tools-Options-Sharing. These folders can be added or deleted anytime from the list using this Sharing option preferences window.
The only files you can view in your LW library window are ones you share & your incomplete folder. If you wish to have your LW dwnld folder listed in the library you'll need to share it. Click here for instructions & sample image

By the way, the new beta versions of LW by default have a Saved files folder listed in the LW Library window. Which is equivalent of what you want. So then you can open your dwnld folder simly by using the Explore/browse button from the Lib window.

please understand i dont want to stop file share i just wanna turn off the bouse feature- my computer guy says people can plant viri

how do i turn off just the"brouse files" feature ?

I think thats a "option"

There's no specific way, but the best way is to turn off the Chat function. ie: Tools>Options>Chat & uncheck the optionn box for enable chat. I'm not so sure your tech guy is really in knowledge of p2p technology. But anyway, that's the best way to stop browsing.

By the way you should have firewall, antivirus, adware, & spyware apps alongside your computer always to protect you. On windows anyway. If you need any links to any just ask.

Gang...

There is really only one thing to be worried about re: Allowing File Browsing -

If you have a slow connection and/or you are sharing a large number of files at the same time, those 'Browsers' will be consuming potentially large chunky bits of your available bandwidth.

In other words, allowing Browsing will inevitably reduce your file transfer rate unless you have a big fat connection or are sharing very few files (as any Responsible Ultrapeer would do !).

Where is the other risk associated with Browse Files that does not also occur normally within seconds of going on line ?

I believe the amount of bandwidth that will be dedicated to file browsing is limited in most apps.

thanks for your help. I dont know how to find the limewire folder of my preferences but i thnk since im going to upgrade its not necessary.

How do i find my personal download page?

Lord of the Rings November 12th, 2004 02:01 PM

Enter your email pass here: http://www.limewire.com/english/cont...pro_lookup.jsp
By the way, if you're going to upgrade, may I recommend the LW 4.1.10 beta which is very good (these betas have been very reliable!) & you can find those at the bottom of your personal dwnld page for the beta pro or otherwise: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/beta.shtml
Your LW Prefs folder which you need to delete is called .limewire & is found here: C:/Documents And Settings/your_username/.limewire or use your search engine to find it.

Hmm. I went to my "personal" download page(for me? thanks.)
And they speak only of 4.2.2
Whats the difference between this and Beta?
thanks for the help lord

Sorry I was unaware the new version had officially been released. It was just released in the last day/2 to my knowledge. I haven't tried out the new version so I can't tell you the difference. Generally the beta uses the latest ideas. The betas for version 4 have been very good in my experience.
