Default can you burn films onto cd and watch on dvd player on tv?

hi, I can burn films from limewire (via my media player) to cd, using my cd burner. I then want to play the film on my tv, through the dvd player - can I do this. I have been able to do this with the sounds from the films, but there is no picture. What should I do? Many thanks.

Hello, your downloaded films are most likely .avi files (compacted for easy download).
Most dvd players can't play those, so you would have to watch them on your comp or use a TV out to hook up your TV to Comp.

wow, thanks for that, you've saved me trailing around, trying to find the answer. What file type does play on a dvd player, if any?? ie if .avi does not. Many thanks.

Burning software like Nero is able to burn from a .avi a VCD/SVCD which you can view on TV.

Here can you can download a full working demo:

Also, mv03dl, it would help all of us if you told us what Operating System and what 'player' (on your computer) you are now using...

And, if you have a 'stand-alone' DVD player, what other file types will it 'play' ?

The newer home 'DVD Players' will also play divx avi mp3 mpeg mpg and more ! Without conversion...

As Morgwen said... Nero...

Nero 6 in the full version is one of the very few programs that I would strongly recommend buying as soon as possible...
It is also very easy to use for burning .avi and other file types to "home machine playable" DVDs.

Last... Might seem crazy because it is the exact opposite of the reality with audio CDs - If you want your copies to play in 'normal players', always use DVD-RW disks for your DVD copies...
And, of course, always use CD-R for audio stuff...

Mixed-up world, hmmm ?
