Hello and thanks in advance for your assistance.
I spent the afternoon researching topic threads related to the avi file formats and was unable to come up with a suitable answer to my question. Is there a site where you can just download the codes needed to view AVI files? I have no cd burner (but have a cd drive) on my system and the download packs make it sould like it's needed. I am operating Windows XP, Limewire version 4.2 Pro, and have a DSL connection. The error message I get when attempting to play the files on Windows Media Player is something like "Missing Codecs" but the soundtrack usually comes through, not the picture. Again, thanks in advance for your assistance. |

You can download the codec for avis but you might need other codecs in future. Here you will find all of them:
http://www.codec-download.com/module...name=Downloads Perhaps you should download and install the ACE codec pack, it contains all common codecs. If you don´t want to install all codecs, download and install the DivX codec, if your .avi isn´t playing after this find out which codec you need: http://www.softpedia.com/public/cat/...1-2-7-58.shtml Morgwen |

Do you mean like Flash animations or Gif animations, or Quicktime anims? For Flash you should get Flash Player (QT Player can also play them & Gif.)

I did a quick search in LW for S.P. & came up with these formats: mp3 (lol), avi, rm, mpg, mpeg. The most common one's listed in order from 1st.
rm format is real player. http://www.rmconverter.com/ if you wished to convert them. BH also came up with some odd one's in wav, bin & m4a (mp4) B came up with a couple in wmv format. But again the most common are in the initial list above. So whatever player you're going to use I presume wmp should be ok. |

Thanks for your reply. I have acces to all but "avi" and "asf" program files.
Apologies... "Asf" is enabled both in sound and visual. Last edited by rleemac2002; November 21st, 2004 at 08:26 PM. |

I'm not sure what you mean you have access to all BUT avi & asf formats? Is it your present programs can't play them. One thing about AVI is that although it has a generic format. It's similar to Quicktime in that it can act like an outer shell; there can be other sub-formats within that shell. eg: avi-divx
