I've had the best luck with avi and mpg.
Don't forget to check the file size. Most complete movies will be around 700 MB. They also may come in 2 or 3 parts to fit on cd. Any thing less will probably be a trailer or clip. You can also search(upper right between f.a.q. and home) for any other information you might want to find out about.
