![]() FIRST TIP IS TO NOTE SPELLING HABITS. THIS HELPS. SECOND, IF YOUR A MAC USER, AVOIDING DOWNLOADING ANYTHING OTHER THAN "DMG'S". SOMETIMES "SIT'S" AND THE LIKE ARE GOOD, BUT KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR SIMILAR ONES. THIRD, IF YOUR DOWNLOADING,SAY, FINALCUT HD PRO, THE FILE SIZE SHOULD BE IN THE 200 MB'S. IF ITS IN THE HIGH KB'S, ITS CORRPUTED. I HAVE DEVELOPED AN EDGE THAT HELPS ME FILTER OUT A GOOD NUMBER OF FAKES. EMAIL ME IF YOUR INTERESTED IN FALSE FILE UPLOADERS. I HAVE A GREAT LIST OF THEIR BROWSER ID'S. SOME HAVE A ROTATING OR MASK BROWSER. THESE GENERALY BELONG TO DEVELOPERS THEMSELVES. I HAVE ID' A GOOD DEAL OF BROWSERS THAT I SUSPECT ARE BEING UPLOADED BY APPLE CO. IF YOUR AN APPLE USER, BE SURE TO TYPE IN "JUNG" IN YOUR SEARCH FIELD. I HAVE A LOT OF GOOD APPS WITH SERIALS FOR YOU ALL. REMEMBER, SHARING IS THEFT,OOPS, I MEAN "CARING".... |

![]() I suppose that by "fake downloads" you meant files that seem to be what you wanted, but are not. During the last few days I am getting them. It seems the cycle is as follows: 1. one selects a file type, say video 2. one types in one or more fields for IDing the file, say JeLo concert in San Juan 3. one pulses the search button 4. one gets a number of normal files with different names that somewhat match one's request, and a few files which are exactly what one typed, some times even all capitalised and with letters separated by a "_", so that one does not miss them. Normally this latter type are, of course, just what a LW user would dream of finding: - of high quality (4 stars), - small size, - with many copies and - through a highspeed connection, T1 or better! I suspected this for a while, but today I confirmed it when I invented a title and author for a video file with my maternal grandmother's maiden name and birth place. Indeed I got a few seconds later exactly what I had typed in the search fields: 3 (4 stars) 33 apple.laf.AquaFileIcon@4172df* pamplona ainciburo wmv 106,8 KB T1 3(4 stars) 29 apple.laf.AquaFileIcon@4172df* P_a_m_p_l_o_n_a _A_i_n_c_i_b_u_r_o wmv 106,8 KB T1 *apple.laf.AquaFileIcon@4172df is the code for a wmv file in Mac OS X version of LM 4.8.1 It is clear that there is, somewhere in the LW network, an application that fabricates fake files with whatever searchers want. These fake files, normally load webpages with porno or other unwanted materials. What I do currently is to look carefully to a file characteristics before I download it. But I suppose there are better and surer ways to block these files. Has anyone had experiences with this? |

![]() I AM NOT SURE IF THERE IS AN OS THAT CAN COLLECT INFO AND FABRICATE FILES AS YOU SAID, BUT ITS NOT HARD TO BELIEVE OR EVEN DEVELOPE. BUT IT'S DISTURBING TO THINK ABOUT NON THE LESS. I HAVE DOWNLOADED A FEW (DMG) APPS THAT HAD TO HAVE BEEN DEVELOPED BY APPLE. HOW DO I KNOW? EX: FILE LOADS IMAGE/INSTALLER IS LAUNCHED/ OS EXAMINES PACKAGE/ RELEASE+LICENCSE IS PRESENTED/DOWNLOAD BEGINS/OPTIMIZATION BEGINS/ INSTALL COMPLETE/RESTART. CRASHED!!!!!!!!!!! I HAVE TO BOOT IN UNIX AND RUN ROOT, ONLY TO DISCOVER THAT FOLDERS IN THE SYSTEM LIBRARY FOLDER ARE DELETED. THIS IS NO DOUBT APPLE. AS A TECH, I CAN ASSURE ANYONE THAT THIS TYPE OF FABRICATION HAS TO BE VERY WELL FUNDED,EXTREMELY DIFFICULT, AND REQUIRE A HIGH LEVEL OF KNOWLDEGE IN DEVELOPMENT. BESIDES, WHO WITH EVEN LOW END KNOWLEDGE OF DEVELOPEMENT CAN DENY THAT APPLE IS ENTIRELY RESPONSIBLE FOR THE PC VIRUS CRISIS? SINCE APPLES ARE UNIX BASED NOW, THEY CAN CARRY,BUT NOT HOST VIRUSES. SO THE ONLY WAY TO AFFECT MAC IS TO EDIT THE SYSTEM FOLDERS BECAUSE OF THE NATURE OF ITS PC SIMILAR FILE ALLOCATION. SOMETIMES DMG'S WILL FAIL TO PRODUCE AN IMAGE AT ALL WHICH IS CONVENIANT, BUT IS DISCOURAGING BECAUSE OF THE TIME IT TAKES TO DOWNLOAD. I HAVE HAD AN OVERALL GOOD EXPERIENCE WITH DMG'S. 2 TO 3 OUT OF 10 ARE ACTUALLY BAD. BUT THE SUREIST WAY TO GO IS SITX AND SIT FILES. IF THE PACKAGE IS OVERLY LARGE, IT NO DOUBT CONTAINS A DMG INSIDE WHICH IS AUTOMATICALLY SUSPECT. THE BEST WAY TO TELL IS TO GET THE SIZE SPECS FROM THE DEVELOPERS WEBSITE. THE SITX OR SIT SHOULD BE ABOUT 5 TO 10 MEGS PER 100 SMALLER THAN THE ORIGINAL. A GREAT WAY TO TELL! KEEP ME POSTED WITH MORE INFO. TAKE CARE FRIEND. |

![]() Hello Masterjung, I have collected a bit more information about the fake downloads. They are only fabricated when one searches for a video or image file. I tried all other possibilities and none yielded results, which is what one should expect because the search was fake. So whoever is playing with this focuses on video or image files searches only. In the case of any the category Any Type yields mixed results some video and some image, but the totals do not match combined totals for the separated searches. The images are allways jpeg and the video wmv formats; the sizes are also the same, ca. 110 kb for video and 35 for images. How can one know which computer in the network has a particular file? With multiple copies of the same file it is not possible to pinpoint it, or is it? Greetings, |

![]() MOST OF THESE LOSERS HAVE A ROTATING OR MASK ID. I AM WORKING ON A PROGRAM THAT WILL TRY TO DISCOVER THE ORIGINAL ID. IF I CAN GET THIS TO WORK, I WILL BROADCAST IT. AS FOR WMV'S, I HAVE ALL TOGETHER STOPED DOWNLOADING THEM. THE QUALITY IS POOR AND THERE ARE JUST TOO MANY FAKES. WHAT YOU SAID ABOUT FAKES BEING MORE PROFOUND AMONG VIDEO AND IMAGE FILES IS TRUE SIMPLY BECAUSE THEY ARE FAR EASIER AND FASTER TO PRODUCE. A FILE AROUND 300 TO 800 MEGS IS SIMPLY NOT WORTH AN ADVERTISERS TIME. BESIDES, THEY MUST HAVE,AT ANY GIVEN TIME,AROUND 60 GIGS OF FILES ON LIMEWIRE. MINIMUM. TO CART AROUND MULTIPLE ADS AVERAGING 400 MEGS IS SIMPLY NOT PRACTICAL FOR A WORM. UNLESS OF COUSRE, THEY HAVE A MASSIVE SERVER. BUT STILL, NOT PRACTICAL. BUT CONSIDER THIS: APPLE SPENDS MILLIONS TO DEVELOP AN APP LIKE SHAKE,MOTION, WEB OBJECTS, EACH COSTING HUNDREDS, EVEN THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS. A SERVER PUMPING OUT FAKES ON GNUTELLA NETS DOESN'T SEEM LIKE MIS-SPENT FINANCES. IT'S A GREAT DETERENT. I MESS AROUND WITH THE LARGER APPS, SO I HAVEN'T EXPERIENCED AS MANY FAKES AS YOU, BUT WAITING 30 TO 45 MINUTES FOR A FAKE IS A PAIN. I TRIED YOU METHOD AND IT HAPPENED TO ME TOO. DO IT AGAIN AND POST THE HOST'S ID. I WILL DO THE SAME. I ASSURE YOU THEY WILL BE THE SAME PERSON BUT TA DIFFERENT ID. YOUR QUESTION ABOUT BEING ABLE TO TELL, YES. HOST'S ID IS ALWAYS THE SAME. LIMEWIRE GOES "DEEP" NOT "INDIVIDUAL USER". CHECK OUT (HOWSTUFFWORKS.COM) AND LIMEWIRES STRUCTURE WILL BE EXPLAINED. AVOID THOSE WMV'S .ALSO, SEND ME THE NAMES AND ADDRESSES OF ALL THE FAKES YOU GET. I WILL DO THE SAME |

![]() Check these links 1. autogenerated spam results, & also 2. autogenerated mp3 spam results And Google Overpeer & you'll get an idea of the groups who are sponsored to spam the gnutella network with rubbish. If you're using LimeWire then use your Junk filter to filter them out. It's a dynamic learning filter & is quick to learn the most basic spam as you've mentioned. Viruses take much longer to filter out. You can also use your keyword filter where necessary. Basically ignore anything less than 1 MB (1,000 KB) in size. As you can see these topics have already been discussed many times on the forum. That's why we keep Stickies at the top of each section of the forum. We also have a search button to help people find answers. Since over 90% of all questions posted have been asked before. lol ![]() |
