After I have downloaded the files that I want, and I have saved them to my computer, can I erase my library, so that I am working with a smaller number of files? OR, Will erasing them off of the limewire library erase them off of my computer as well?

DO NOT ERASE THEM ie use the delete function on them . You WILL erase them from your computer without going via the trash/recycle bin!
You can chose remove from share, but the point of p2p is that you share either what you have downloaded or something else. I hope this helps
