how can I play .tar.gz .z or .zip in MPC directly?

Not 100% on this, but mp3, mpeg, wmv and avi are defined as containers, not archives.

zip and tar are compressed archives.

To me that seems like a big difference. Others might disagree ?

I really don't see why you want to be able to play them directly either. Are you lacking space on harddrive or what?
