Depends on what software you are using to create the dvd. Some may not recognise some audio formats like mp3, or m4a or wma or rp. Audio on dvd's uses either of 4 formats & neither of those are the formats I just mentioned above. I presume you are wishing the dvd to be recognised by a dvd player right?

* Presumably your dvd authoring software can convert to AC3 / PCM, which would suit your needs. As mentioned some authoring softw can convert mp3's to these formats, some can't. Thing is mp3's use 44.1 KHz, whereas dvd audio uses either 48 or 96.

The audio formats dvd uses are either AC3 (dolby digital surround), PCM (almost same as aiff/wav as it is uncompressed audio but uses a lot of space & uses 48 instead of 44.1 KHz ... equates to about 11 MB/min), MPEG-2 audio (but this format is only recognised by players made for some countries). DTS which is a proprietry format .. home users are unable to convert to this format. I heard of another format SDDS but know nothing about it.

(BTW I worked on but still never got around to completing the final step of a dvd8 format job for personal use, a couple of short audio videos converted from video tape, & the remainder are slideshows with a selection of music from same artist from both cd's & mp3's including rare material. All up running time is something like 6-8 hours lol I used both PCM & ac3 audio. It all links in stories to run sequentially though can be run separately from menus. I needed to take the work material off my computer for work reasons ... it took up like 60+ GB lol )
