Default trying to add music to a picture dvd

I have been trying to make some picture dvd's. When I try to add background audio from my shared music downloaded from limewire pro it keeps saying "failiure to recognize, file may be unsupported or corrupt"??????? I have tried a ton of different songs and only 1 or 2 have worked. The biggest frustration is when that message pops up it freezes my computer, and I have to shut down and restart everything!!! Anybody know how I can fix this????????

Depends on what software you are using to create the dvd. Some may not recognise some audio formats like mp3, or m4a or wma or rp. Audio on dvd's uses either of 4 formats & neither of those are the formats I just mentioned above. I presume you are wishing the dvd to be recognised by a dvd player right?

* Presumably your dvd authoring software can convert to AC3 / PCM, which would suit your needs. As mentioned some authoring softw can convert mp3's to these formats, some can't. Thing is mp3's use 44.1 KHz, whereas dvd audio uses either 48 or 96.

The audio formats dvd uses are either AC3 (dolby digital surround), PCM (almost same as aiff/wav as it is uncompressed audio but uses a lot of space & uses 48 instead of 44.1 KHz ... equates to about 11 MB/min), MPEG-2 audio (but this format is only recognised by players made for some countries). DTS which is a proprietry format .. home users are unable to convert to this format. I heard of another format SDDS but know nothing about it.

(BTW I worked on but still never got around to completing the final step of a dvd8 format job for personal use, a couple of short audio videos converted from video tape, & the remainder are slideshows with a selection of music from same artist from both cd's & mp3's including rare material. All up running time is something like 6-8 hours lol I used both PCM & ac3 audio. It all links in stories to run sequentially though can be run separately from menus. I needed to take the work material off my computer for work reasons ... it took up like 60+ GB lol )

I used dvd studio pro to do my dvd authoring, backed up with final cut pro for video, peak for audio & photoshop for pics & video. I may have used soundedit & deck also, & definitely used Toast & Jam to help with audio processing & odd things including merging, creating audio images, etc. I used A.Pack to convert to AC3 format.

Thanks for the speedy response The software that I am using is Roxio 9, media creator. When I first started the project I managed somehow to get a song with no problems. Then I tried to add another since I had more pics and needed another tune. That's when I got the "unsupported or corrupt file" message.

I've tried several other songs now, and keep getting the same message! How would I go about converting the audio?

Roxio should be able to convert it itself. Something you need to be aware of is all audio in a track must be exact same format ... can't mix ac3 & pcm on same track. You'd need to create a separate slideshow. Make sure you have the same audio conversion settings when adding the music so it converts to same format.

I use roxio Toast on mac osx, but never/rarely use it to create dvd's & the program is somewhat different to the windows version. On studio pro can add multiple audio files to same track, but it has quite advanced options. Roxio is rather basic in comparison. It may or may not have the ability to add more than one audio file to the same track (slideshow.) It's been ages since I attempted to create a slideshow using toast & can't recall if I had music or not.

What you may need to do is combine all the music outside of roxio using an audio editing program. Then save it as wav. Then add it to the slideshow & allow roxio to convert it to ac3.

It might be worth registering at the roxio forum & posting the query there. It may take a while to get answered though ... at least that's how I found it.
