I received the error "this file does not appear to contain a video track" when I tried to play a avi file recently downloaded. It's an xvid format and i was using Divx 6 to open it. Any Ideas?? Thanks in advance

Try installing the VLC media player, if it won't play it I'd say there is something wrong with the file....
