Default Installation

Hello all --

I have an iMac 2 Ghz Intel Core Duo with Leopard Mac OS X version 10.5.7 installed. The Apple software update shows no new updates available.

After installing LimeWire basic I get, “Installation Successful.” Upon launching LimeWire from the shortcut icon on the desktop I get the message,

“You can’t open the application “LimeWire” because it requires a version of Java that is not available.”

It goes on to say, “This application requires a “1.6+” version of Java. The available Java version “1.5” may be able to open this application, but it may not work correctly.”

I've used LimeWire many times on this computer with no problem. When I opened LimeWire today, it opened fine but suggested an upgrade. This is when the problem started.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

k .. unfortunately your mac is not compatible with LW 5 due to it not having Java 1.6. If you open your Java preferences found in your utilities folder you can confirm this for yourself; Setting up Java for Leopard (see 2nd image)

What you need to do is downgrade back to LW 4. http://www.gnutellaforums.com/mac-os...ck-lw-4-a.html. Personally I'd recommend LW 4.16 rather than 4.18 but that's up to you. If you wish to know how to get 4.16 & what to do, just ask.
(Why LW 4.16? (1) continues LW 5 incompletes whereas LW 4.18 cannot, (2) both LW 5 & 4.18 prevent versions earlier than 4.14 connecting to them thus blocking out a portion of the network. LW 4.16 connects with versions at least as early as 4.8.1; thus, getting best of both worlds. (3) LW 4.18 had other buggy issues that were complained about at the time of its release, a change in its downloads preferences location & download location disrupted the program.)
