Hello everyone. I am also new here - signed up in 2001 and haven't been back since - can I go back to the age I was then?? :::laughing:::
I don't have anything to ask just yet - just thought I'd say "hi".

wow that's amazing, welcome evadare. :) Great to see someone from back then. Even I wasn't around here then. But I was using p2p (different network), and after a couple of struggling years using LW eventually made it here. :D

Glad to see you have returned. :welcomegnut3:

hi Lord of the Rings

Thanks for your reply! I believe p2p is "peer to peer" but what is LW?
Forgive my ignorance... now you're going to take me out of the "newbie" catagory and put me in the "dunce" catagory!

LW = LimeWire ... it's easier to type than the full name. :) (LW officially has the W of wire as a capital letter.) And yes you are right about the initials p2p. ;)

Thanks for your reply.

I have an old copy of LimeWire - version 4.12.11

The last time I used it, about 8 months to a year ago, I downloaded one song (by Savoy Brown) and got some kind of virus (Blaster?), but I got rid of it by deleting my browsing history which I always do before getting offline. Then I ran Norton immediately (I hear Norton isn't so good... I see a lot of "Scan Omissions" in the Event Log...) but the only reference to the virus was in the history part of Norton, because I had gotten rid of it.

I don't know if you know the answer to this, but, is there any reason I shouldn't use LimeWire, or the specific version of it that I have?

Thanks again,

Here's a few tips for music: 1. Virus thread: Typical virus spam file sizes - Make a note of them (click on blue link to see)

2. How to find music

LW 4.12 should be fine. Only problem is you will not be able to download from those who are using 4.18 or LW 5 because those versions prevent it in an attempt to force people to upgrade by limiting their uploads to versions no earlier than 4.14. I personally like using 4.16. http://www.gnutellaforums.com/340213-post427.html

Question: What's the difference in my version and the version that you like - 4.16 - ? Does it have spyware? Why do they want me to upgrade? Is it better? Restricted in some way?

Why do you prefer the version that you prefer, instead of version 4.18 or LW 5?

Thanks for the info that you already sent me - I will need it all, and I will use it.

I already explained it. If you wish more detail, see Changelog - LimeWire

There's no need to update. I was only suggesting you would have access to a larger portion of the network that's all. :) Why? Because whilst using LW 4.12, you will never be able to download from people who are using LW 4.18 or LW 5. I use 4.16 which is able to download from both.
