hello and question why is there not an ativirus on limewire, it was my fault, not the owner of the file i download, but why are there not any virus checkers? checking if the files you are about to download are safe aor not... i tried to download a file i thought was of like a photoshop 7 or so but it turned out to have a setup.exe that didnt seem to have adobe like features, and then later on my computer crashed and now i cant access my computer... it was my fault that i went ahead and downloaded it, but it is partially a problem when there are so many files on there that are not safe... anyways...my names darren im 28 from near london ontario and im hoping i can get my winxp computer fixed...im in a mad scramble to find the replacement cd the one that fixes it... |

the newer versions of limewire do have the ability to block known bad files, but of course that is limited to the list that is included... you might try booting into safe mode and see if you can rectify your problem by uninstalling the program and any other new items that don't look right....of course this takes some computer savvy to pull off.. log into safe mode by hitting F8 after the boot process starts (when you turn your machine on)...if you hit the F8 key at the right time a menu will pop up and you should choose safe mode without networking....if you can't get in that way then you are truly hosed....

Gnutella Network and Viruses Hi Darrenvox You know, I did not know there was a "London" in Canada, you learn something new every day in this forum. Anyway, you have unfortunately learned a bitter lesson here and that is you do not download programs or compressed files from the gnutella network, simply because there is a good (extremely high) chance it will contain a virus (or some other malware). Also, all newbies that ask are advised to keep their AV (and other protective apps) up to date and scan every file that they download. Even then, when dealing with the gnutella network, there is no protection that will protect you better than your own common sense. Sorry you're going to have to do a "reformat and re-installation" to get your PC back but at least you now know how dangerous the network can be. UK Bob |
