Limewire. Why is my download rate so slow?

Hi, I'm a brand new user and my first experiences have been super slow downloads. 6kps for a 5mg is common. If that's not bad enough they usually end up corrupted. The system cleverly waits until the very last part to identify a potential virus. Then 50odd % stall and no matter how many times I try they keep on stalling. I'm in Australia on a brand new laptop dualcore pentium something or other and have TURBO adsl (what a joke!!) supplied by our major telco TELSTRA. I have given Limewire a fair go but really in Australia the product is rubbish. Sad thing is I prefer to pay for stuff but if the basic Limewire is crap the 40 bucks on Pro would probably be a waste of money. Too scared to trial in case I can't get rid of it like Bearshare which painfully has stuck like glue all over my system!! Grumpy old John in Australia
