Just trying to navigate which P2P network will be the best one to use now that Limewire has been shutdown.

It is still possible to use LW 5. And even LW 4. . (Windows or Mac users of LW 4 or 5 should use the Gnutella Forum's LimeWire-FiX program to connect to the network.)

1. Download 5.5.10.
2. Download fresh Gnutella.net file so you can connect
3. Install LW 5.
4. Open LW 5 & do the set up. Though since you already used LW before you probably won't need to. Then close the program.
5. Make sure LW 5 is closed. Then replace the Gnutella.net file.

I installed the older version of LW but there seems to be no one out there. Is it possible that many LW users had converted to the latest LW version and that by itself actually killed off LW users who probably never will convert back to an older version?

Depends how old a version you installed.

I've connected using LW 4.16 through to 5.5.10 over the past two days (on both mac & windows) & connected well & downloaded easily. Did you use File_Girl71's Fix whilst LW was closed?

Someone told me yesterday they saw a lot of LW 4 users out there now compared to previously this year.

I am sure the numbers of users may have dropped a little, but still lots out there i can assure you.
