Greetings bedelman,

Welcome to the Gnutella forums!

You'll find a lot of good info here re how to get the best quality music, transferring to iPod, and antiviral programs.

To listen to your music on your computer: The most recommended player here is VLC player or GOM player; both are free and easily found via a websearch.

The easiest burner software I've found is Burrn (also free). Remember that some (older) CD players do not handle CD-RW disks, but all should play CD-R disks without problems. And newer CD players can play MP3s, allowing more music to fit on a disk, whereas older, or cheaper players cannot. If your CD player does not play MP3s, make sure you burn the disk as a "music disk", so that the songs will be converted to be compatible with most, if not all, CD players. If your CD player can handle MP3s, burning the disk as a "data disk" allows you to put far more content on the disk.

Hi Bedelman

I would just like to add a few words of warning, hopefully, before you start downloading from the gnutella network.

1) Always check all files you download with an AV scanner, some of them (well, quite a lot really) are disguised viruses, which could wreck your PC.

2) Do not, under any circumstances, download any compressed files, e.g zip, rar, pdf, etc, it's a good 99% chance that they are viruses, worms or some other form of malware.

3) There are a lot of false files out there so be wary and do not abandon your common sense because that is the thing that will protect you on a potentially hostile and deceitful network.

4) Always keep your computer protection up to date, i.e. your anti-virus, anti-spyware, firewall and malware blocker (stops unauthorised software communicating with dodgy web-sites without you knowing).

OK, once you are prepared you can enjoy using and adding to the gnutella network.

UK Bob
