hello
i've used limewire for sometime now. recently i had connection problems where LW did not connet or if it did, it did for a short period of time. i followed some advices that i read on this forum from uninstalling/reinstalling to deleting the .limewire file. none of these worked for me. but at least LW started, now it just hangs without starting. if i tried to start the software it will show loading it self, then a windows installer will pop up saying "preparing to install..." then after a few minutes that same windows installer pop up will say "install server not responding" giving me the option to retry or cancel. if i hit retry i would get the same message all over again. LW shows no activity in the windows task manager. i tried uninstalling/reinstalling java that didn't work either. I do have Kaspersky anti Hacker, but i've allowed LW to have access. this is using LW Pro 4.2.2 which i can no longer update because it's been a little over six months now. i tried downloading the new version LWbasic 4.2.3 and i still have the same problem. this is really annoying, specially when you get so much used to this software. and don't get me wrong i luv LW, i just got to find a way to fix this. by the way, im running win xp pro sp 2, latest java available 1.4.2_5, DSL 2wire modem ... forgot to mention that the installation process is apparently ok it didn't show any type of errors. its just trying to start LW when it happens Last edited by m4ki4v3lo; November 23rd, 2004 at 10:29 AM. |

All the same, you should update your installshield engines. You can find a link to the updater in a sticky at the top of this section.
ALso you should update your java: Java 1.4.2 (click on link) Oh you already did that. LW 4.2.4 has been released. What brand name & model number of modem/router do you use? It may well have its own firewall. Also did you check the SP2 threads on the forum. SP2 can limit connections. Double-check your XP firewall & others: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml Give LW some time to connect. To work thru difficult times try leaving it on 30 - 60 mins. See if that makes any difference. Last edited by Lord of the Rings; December 5th, 2004 at 08:04 AM. |
