I'm not sure what you're referring to in that sticky that I did not properly do in my thread.
The error message is: "LimeWire has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience". I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, and also tried deleting the .limewire folder, but I cannot find that. I searched for it to no avail. I think I may have deleted it when this problem first arose a few weeks ago and have since forgotten. As for the java aspect, I'm not sure what version I'm using, how can I tell? Thanks! |

Download java 1.5 update 2 JRE found here http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/download.jsp
You can tell you java version in LW by selecting the: "About Limewire" menu. Bonne chance

I tried downloading and installing the java update in the above post and got this error message when I attempted to install it:
The installer cannot continue because the files necessary for the installation are unavailable. |

[Not helpful] Well, it's windows, some things like that are bound to happen. Are you willing to do the spring cleaning are reformat your drive? [/Not helpful]
Conclusion: I don't know why, it shouldn't happen, your windows installation is probably ****** up.

Jeez, I hardly think that this java installer not working is reason enough to reformat my hard drive!
I guess I'll keep working on it, and wait to see if anybody on these boards can lend a hand. Thank you for your assistance thus far! |

Well it doesn't look good. It may come to et voila's suggestion.
I think your registry is messed up. Uninstall Java completely from control panel>add or remove programs. After that uninstall LimeWire from start>all programs>LimeWire --- You will find an uninstaller there(hopefully). Then go to control panel>add or remove programs --- see if LimeWire is listed there --- if so remove. Then use windows explorer and search for any references to LimeWire and Java. If you find any delete them. Then run an anti-virus scan. I would also suggest downloading spybot and ad- aware. If you don't have these search(upper right) for --- ursula --- in right hand side --- click any reslut. Her signature line has a link to the various software I just mentioned. Run them after you d/l them. Then run a registry cleaner. you can find one here. http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...gistry+cleaner After you have done all this d/l and install the latest version of java then LimeWire. It sounds as though you may have been infected with a virus, trojan or worm. These steps may not even work, and you may have to end up having to uninstall WindowsXP, formating the hard drive and re-installing. Sometimes this is the only remedy, depending on the extent of the damage done. Best of luck |

I used to run ad aware and spybot and then found that they were somehow messing up my computer, ie, I had to reformat it 4 times. After the 4th time, I decided against them, and have been fine ever since. I realize this sounds terribly ignorant, but it works. Other than limewire, everything else on my computer works in tip top shape with no slow down whatsoever. I also have a subscription to Norton, with updated virus definitions. Do you still think I should run ad aware and spybot?
Thanks. |

Those programs will only mess up your comp if you delete stuff that you shouldn't. That's why after scaning your comp they show the results and offer you a chance to choose what to delete and what to not.
