"LimeWire has encountered..." error message

Hey,

I've tried both the offline and web installers, but to no avail. No matter what I do I get the "LimeWire has encountered an error and needs to close" error in Windows. See the attachment for a screenshot. If it matter any, here's the error code:

Have you sent the error report sometimes it will have a link to what is causing the problem if it is a known problem.

where did you get your version of limewire? It looks like from the LW site. Give us some details about what you are running it on. Hardware/win 98/xp sp2..., firewall, RAM, disk space avail, etc. Also, is your Java up to date?

I got my installers from the Limewire site. I've got a P4 2.67 GHz, 768 MB RAM, 170 GB total HD space, WinXP SP2, I've got Sygate Personal Firewall (which I got after LW stopped working) and PeerGuardian2, and according to "java -version" I have:

java version "1.4.2"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.2-b28)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.2-b28, mixed mode).

I see this data in your report:

Apprently you are trying to install Limewire from a network drive; this application hang may be caused by instability on your network drive (possibly a problem with your files server), or by incompatibility of your network filesystem with the installer.

May be you should retry by running it from a local drive (the default installation path for Limewire is "C:\Program Files\LimeWire")

This is apparently not a Limewire bug, but a limitation of the installer.

So make sure you don't download and run it directly from your internet browser cache. Download the Limewire installer to a local path (click on "Save" rather than "Run" when you see the prompt for the clicked download link), and once it is downloaded run it from there!
