I have the same problem... One thing I did notice, if you just try to open the jave control panel it does the same thing even if lime wire is not open. Is that a java issue or a graphics card issue...

I do not think anyone knows for sure yet. I am starting to sway toward a multiple conflict between LimeWire, Graphics, & Java. There have been problems in the past with LimeWire and Graphic cards and possibly Java hopefully before to long we will figure these out.

If all who are having this problem could leave the information below we would be able to see if there is a pattern and maybe figure it out.

OS, Windows 98/2000/XP
CPU, P4 3.0 GHz/AMD 64 3200+Ghz
Memory, 256MB/512MB
Graphics/Video Card & Platform NVIDIA/Intel Extreme/Radieon & model #
Connection, Dial-up/DSL
LimeWire Version 4.8.1/4.9.11
Java Version 1.4.2/1.5.4
What firewall you use if any
What Antivirus if any
Are you new to LimeWire or Experienced
An accurate description of your problem

An accurate description of your problem - New version of lime wire pro 4.9.37 will cause CPU to bog at the splash screen. After a couple of minutes it will reach the language selection screen. CPU maxed at 100 %. Note that loading java console from windows control panel will cause the same behavior w/o lime wire loaded.

Have you tried editing your registry? if not follow the instructions below.

First uninstall Java and LimeWire if you can then follow the instructions below.

You will need to go to Start/Run type regedit into the box this will open the registry editor

Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER go to software expand it look for Java Script if you find it delete it. Now collapse it.

Now go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE go to software expand it look for Java, LimeWire & Magnet delete them if you find them.Collapse it

Now go to HKEY_USERS go to S-1-5-21 the first one then go to software expand it look for java if you find it delete it. Collapse it. Close registry editor now go back to the original instructions and manually install Java then LimeWire.

Be careful when you are in the registry do not delete anything other than I listed above you can mess up your machine if you accidentally uninstall something or change your registry settings.

Thanks for your help. I followed your instructions on deleting the registry keys. First uninstalled java (which locked up my machine during the uninstall). Uninstalled again which was successful. Uninstalled limewire also. I then reinstalled java. Then before reinstalling limewire I went to the java app in the control panel and ran that program. I get a blank window, which is the same thing that happens during the lime wire installation where it gets stuck at the language selection screen. Same size window. I would suggest that limewire uses java at this point. When I try to close the blank java window it locks up my machine… Seems to be a java issue to me… Oh, and yesterday to try to see if it made any difference I installed the latest NVIDIA driver… Didn’t change anything.

You may want to try J2SE v 1.4.2_10 JRE you can get it at the link below. Some people have better luck with it.

try this:
uninstall you current java
go here ---> https://sdlcweb2b.sun.com/ECom/EComA...4430793F6DB4AB
then, install.
voila should work.
my take on the problem is that somewhere with java updates past 5.0 there is a conflict with display drivers

blinx152 that link won't work unless you're a signed up member of that site. Is it possible to copy the info from that page here?

I had one other weird problem with my computer. It could not find one of the USB drivers for my new video camera. The driver was one that is included in windows xp. I built the thing about 2 months ago with wxp pro. I decided to blow it out and reinstall everything including system board driver which I am sure I did before. Bottom line, after reinstalling java and lime wire (same versions that were not working) now work... Including my USB drivers for the camcorder... Good luck to those still having problems.
