Unhappy online installer

I hope someone can help me.
I have downloaded limewire to my hard drive. I double click the icon to start installing. The Online Insaller comes up. I say OK and it starts to install. GREAT!
It connects to ?? of ?? sources, saved ?? of 2724kb@??kbps.
At the top of the installer it says, 'no progress for several minits, please restart installer.
That was fine the first 10 times, but this is totaly rediculous.
What is the problem? I can't get it to install and have restarted the computer, internet etc. over and over and nothing seems to help.
I would really appreciate it if someone could tell me what I am doing wrong or what I can do to get this installed.
THANKS,
BeWitched

Try these things:

1. Install Java 1.5 from here using the "Offline" installer: Java 1.5 (take the JRE)

2. Configure your firewall so it allows LW full access (advisable not to have 2 active firewalls b/c they can interfere with each other); Firewall configuration instructions (click on link)

3. Delete your LW preferences folder. You'll find it either with step 2 or 3: Fixes for Limewire

4. Install LW "Offline" version from here: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/download.shtml

thanks, but...
I have the Java installed.
Norton asked to allow this and I allowed.
I tried the offlne installer and I have something of a download demon??? that I cannot find to uninstall and it won't allow downloads.
I'm getting so frustrated with this. It gets almost done and quits!!! I'll be bald soon!

I do realise you already have Java installed but often the online instllation of java is corrupt. That's why I suggested reinstalling the "Offline" instller version. Even if that meant uninstlling the other one using the add/remove programs control panel. To uninstll LW, go to Start menu, Programs>LW>Uninstaller. Also the LW installer will uninstall previous versions at the beginning of the installation process. It was just a thought.

I found your posting a little vague & had difficulty understanding it. Perhaps you can rethink the details & explain it with a little more coherent understanding & expression. It sounded like a total "safe" approach at re-installation seemed like the best way to go. But I

BTW disable XP firewall if you're using Norton! The 2 will definitely conflict with each other. Also be aware of the options here License requirement (click on link)
