Limewire Java install problem

I can't install Limewire.
It arrives at the part where it says "loading java.....", then after a long time, comes up with "couldn't install java. try java.com for a more up to date version"
So I did that and got three versions, 3,8 and 10.

Limewire then said "java already installed" and gave me an OK button. But it still won't launch. So I uninstalled everything and started again.

I did this half a dozen times... forwards, backwards, inside out and straight ahead. No way works. Limewire and java will not settle down together on my pc.

What's the problem?

Regards

Dave H

Uninstall LW and all Java versions on your system. Reboot and then download the JRE offline installer of the newest Java version from here:
http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp
Install it and reboot again, then reinstall LW.

Does the error still show even when LW is uninstalled? Is the error popping up randomly all the time?

How are you uninstalling LW - are you using Add/Remove Programs (can cause problems that way!) or are you using LW's uninstaller (Start > All Programs > LW > Uninstall)??

Try these tips: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/332284-post3.html Make sure you uninstall LW using the Start menu -> All Programs -> LW -> Uninstall. Run those utilities mentioned. Then install Java, then LW again. You're using Windows XP so ignore the advice about VISTA.

I would also recommend you delete your LW preferences folder before you reinstall LW: instructions here: Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included at bottom of page.)

As Birdy asked, might be complications if you didn't uninstall LW properly, hopefully the registry cleaners will clean it up.
If still installation problems with LimeWire, then try steps 5 & 6 in my link to the Fixes for LW. ;)
