Default appcompat.txt error

I have just installed Limewire 4.12.11 and get a appcompat.txt error when I run it (see below)
The OS is XP pro + updates
AVG says I am virus free
No other software is affected

Can anyone tellme whatis causing the error from the below?

is there a dll I need to (re-)install?

Many thanks

See if this helps:

Right click My Computer & choose Properties. Under the Advanced tab, click on Error Reporting. Choose Disable Error Reporting & put a checkmark in But notify me When Critical Errors Occur. Ok your way out. There's more you can read here:

Thanks tomvee
This stops it from trying to contact microsoft when it bombs out ...but does not adress the cause of the error that results in the appcompat.txt error
Any further suggestions?

The article in the link I posted covers this, but there really is not much that you can do, & you really are not expected to understand what is in the log file. Reread the article for a better explanation. If you want, reverse the process above & next time the error occurs, if it gives you the option to send a report to Microsoft, do so. Then go back & re-enable the steps above. If you have already sent a report, you have done all you can do with that. Since it only seems to be affecting Limewire, it's probably a minor bug.

Since you did not mention whether or not you have these, make sure in addition to AVG (I'm guessing that it is the antivirus program you were talking about) that you have antispyware programs installed & updated such as AVG Antispyware Free, SUPERAntispyware (use Free Version), or any other programs listed at these links :

.

The second link has some good online scans listed that you should run once in awhile for a second opinion. Note: Most of them run using Internet Explorer.

I'd say there's a corruption in the online installer for either Limewire or Java..
Try the fixes in this thread and make sure you use the offline installers and even try deleting the preference folder...
