![]() HELP! I've been using Limewire for years, and my version 4.9something got hung up a couple of weeks ago. I tried to upgrade to 4.12.11, and now I get this error message everytime "your save folder is not valid. It may have been deleted, you may not have permission to write to it, or there may be another problem. Please choose a different folder." I have tried all the fixes I found here in the forums, but nothing works. Using Windows XP and Java JRE 1.6.0_01; have searched unsuccessfully for .limewire file even in hidden files. Nothing. ![]() |

![]() We'll need a bit more information... http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showthread.php?t=62652 Also, Are you logged on as the administrator? Have you tried changing your save folder? Have you tried the previous version of Java (some have trouble with the most recent version)? Java SE Downloads - Previous Release - JDK 5 Can you locate your save folder? Are there files in it? Did you just do a manual search, or have you used the search function on your computer? Thanks ![]() Dan |

![]() I feel like an idiot... I just typed out an entire response, and then hit the back button and lost it all... <sigh> Here I go again... Are you logged on as the administrator? I think so. I'm the only profile on this computer. Have you tried changing your save folder? Don't have a "save" folder, but I created one. Didn't make a difference. When I had LW 4.9, I changed the destination to save the files, depending on who was doing the search (me or my kids); then I would copy them all into itunes. Have you tried the previous version of Java (some have trouble with the most recent version)? No, not knowledgeable at all about Java. Java SE Downloads - Previous Release - JDK 5 Can you locate your save folder? Are there files in it? No Save folder. There are tons of music files in my other folders. Did you just do a manual search, or have you used the search function on your computer? Used search function, which revealed only .LimeWireIconFinder in the Incomplete folder. 1. OS version? Windows XP service pk 2 2. What firewalls you have? ummm, I have no idea 3. How much ram? 512 4. Hard Disk space available? 7.5 GB free, 45 total 5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) cable 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Netgear WGR614v4 7. Where are you trying to connect from? house 8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. Can't get to LW's menu, since it won't load. Used to have functional 4.9, now have nonfunctional 4.12.11 9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider)? Comcast 10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? It says "Your test worked!" 11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. Not that I know of 12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. I have used LW for years, most recent version 4.9. It froze up a couple of weeks ago, and wouldn't fully load, or search, so I uninstalled it and reinstalled the newest version, 4.12.11, and now I'm stuck! 13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? Don't see any of these since LW won't do anything http://www.gnutellaforums.com/attach...1&d=1158099342 14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? I don't know... sorry. Does it help that my son's laptop can access LW just fine with the wireless connection thru this router? The router does have security enabled. |

![]() Thank you thank you! This worked. I deleted the hidden folder LimeWire, then I uninstalled all my Java's/JRE's and installed the 5.11 offline version, and voila. Limewire works like a charm again! Though it has a new skin - ![]() ![]() ![]() Blame the Bleach.... Join Date: September 11th, 2005 Location: Brisbane, Australia Posts: 3,886 ![]() ![]() In the older versions of limewire the preference folder is called the .limewire folder... In the newer versions it is called the LimeWire Folder and it is hidden... The instructions to find both of these folders are in this thread... Fixes for Limewire when LW isn't operating as it should If deleting the preference folder still doesn't fix your problem I noticed that you are running Java 6.1, there have been a few members that have had trouble with this update... Uninstall your Java from the add/remove programs and then re-install the JRE 5.11 offline version....(4th one down) Java SE Downloads - Previous Release - JDK 5 __________________ ![]() If you dont live for something...
