Question VIRUS and TROJAN WARNING

Since my last update to Limewire 4.14.8 on 8/20/07 at 5.25 PM there is a orange/yellow bar across the top of the search results stating: Only search results with a ( picture of a lock) are offical Limewire communications. If I click on the link "more info" it takes me to a page called VIRUS and TROJAN WARNING --which states:

We have received many warnings of viruses and trojans pretending to be updates to LimeWire in your search results. You can only be sure a search result is direct from Lime Wire, LLC if it has a (LOCK) in the quality column.
If you have run such an update in the past, LimeWire may be corrupted. You must update with the current official version available here to guarantee you are using the latest official LimeWire.
Also note that LimeWire connects you to other computer users like yourself in order to share files, so all of your search results are files from other users like yourself (i.e. - your peers). The only exceptions to this rule are search results with a lock or search results from spammers/advertisers. Learn more about the Gnutella network and peer-to-peer file sharing.

If I click on the (here link) above it pulls up a download box with the following:
Limewirewin.exe Type application 3.22MB FROM www9.LimeWire.com [ (notice the 9) in the address??]
and would download what appears to be the same thing I have now. I have ckecked my present limewire 4.14.8 with my antivirus and it does not detect any viruse
I don't know which is BOGUS. The one I have now or the one I am told to download????
I tried to get some help from the Limewire site but I could not get an answer from them.
Can you lelp me out with this problem ????

The www9 file is fine...it's coming from the official site. It's not bogus.

Where did you download your present LW from? If you downloaded that from the official site as well, it will also be fine.

The bogus updates that appear in search results
(a) Don't have a padlock symbol next to them.
(b) Are really small...75.7 KB.
(c) show up as "URGENT LimeWire update - download & install now".

Is there a way I can test this out??

If you haven't seen those bogus updates, that's good. I've never seen an official update (with a padlock) either...so AFAIK there's no way to test this out.

I'd say just make sure that you keep on downloading LW from the official site. If you visit the LW site every once in a while, you'll see when there's been a version update

Just keep the other info in mind, in case you see some dodgy files in the future!

You can choose to have an email notification of replies to a thread you've started or are subscribed to...when the email shows up in your inbox, it contains a link to the thread
To change this setting, click on User CP (top left corner, next to FAQ) & then edit options.

Or you can click on your own name in the Currently Active Users list (very bottom of the main forum page) & there's an option to find all posts
