Default 'Installation corrupt' during re-installation

Hi there.
I'm getting that samme 'installation is corrupt' message, only I HAVE HAD A SUCCESFUL installation already. I downloaded some bad music-video file that I tried to play on my machine, and the file gave an error that made the direction folder shut down... I wasn't able to delete the file, move it or anything - it just gave an error message that forced me to click 'ok' and then it shut the folder down.

After I'd now deleted limewire with the program manager in the control panel it still hadn't deleted the limewire folder from my documents. I deleted the main folder manually and tried to re-install limewire, and now I'm getting the installation error 'corrupt'.

I'd tried to fix it by re-installing. I've also tried the backup intaller - still doesn't seem to work.

I'm suspecting that musicvideo file to be the root to the problem.... Is there some way (without formatting) that I can rinse my 'my documents' folder fr stuff that's hidden someplace there.... If there are rests of that idle file that I downloaded, it should be deleted properly (hmm virus??)

I'm gonna visualise for you where the file was at:

My document -> Limewire -> Saved -> the bad file

I've deleted the complete 'limewire' folder, as I wasn't able to do anything with the file itself, nor the 'saved' folder, without getting an error.

Please somebody, I hope you know this problem!!

Thanks in advance
Malte from Denmark

hello malte.

birdie helped me with the same problem. what i did was i downloaded spybot - Search & Destroy (courtesy of the guys who made them & they're humble with their program), installed the program, run it & it did all the work for me. our problem is we got infected. that music-video file you downloaded may have caused it.

look for 'Birdie' & try to get in touch with him thru this forum. i hope we have the same problem because the solution worked for me.

If a system scan does not help....Try....

Entering the files name into your Search (Start > Search)...
When you find the file try to delete it, if it won't delete try using one of the methods in this link...
Incomplete Download File won't delete at all.

Once you have that under control you will have to uninstall limewire the correct way....Doing it via the add/remove programs will not uninstall limewire correctly....

The correct way to uninstall is Start > All programs > Limewire/Uninstaller

Use your computer's search to look for all files & folders with limewire in the name. If you can't delete them, reboot into safe mode & then try. If they still won't delete, try one of the tools here...Just like you did for the corrupted file...
Incomplete Download File won't delete at all.

Ok, now I've tried pratically everything - I've searched with spybot which found nothing. AVG found one threat which I 'healed'.
I also searched for the file on the windows search option. -Found the file and deleted it competely.
-Still it says that the installation i corrupted....

What to do??

Best regards, Malte

Default uninstall it

sorry for the very very delayed reply. i was thinking 'wondering why' was helping you.

anyway, have you uninstalled everything including the java? you have deleted limewire, right? try uninstalling java as well. after you've done that there should'nt be anything popping or at least giving a hint that you have limewire in your computer.

uninstall it first then let me know what happens. but i do hope you already have it fixed.

Did you delete LimeWire from within the main C:\ directory or did you just delete the shortcut from out of the Start menu?
You may have picked up a virus or spyware file (especially if you updated from anywhere except the official LimeWire home site)
Try Running an Antivirus program over your whole computer.
This can cause all sorts of problems if you have been infected.
If you don't have an AV program you are just asking for problems.
Luckily for you there are many available including the very reputable AVG free version.

Click on the "Computer" Icon on yourt desktop and this should open a view where your top directories are clearly visible. (it helps if you have enabled the option "Organise/Layout/navigation pane" under "Organise".Having the navigation view curent makes it a lot easier to get around in your computer. For one you don't have to keep going back to the top of your folder trees to get around in your computer.
If you don't know what I am talking about best you let a computer technician have a look around your machine.
It looks a lot like you have only deleted the shortcuts within your start menu and not actually removed it from in your computer.
