closing

Hi,
I'm new here so, Hi everyone!
I really need some help. You know how this runs in the background if your not using it and shrinks down to the bottom bar on the left? Ok. So, I have tried closing it altogether when not in use because I have an older computer and don't want resources wasted if they don't have to be. When I do this, a minute later it pops up again, full size! I've done this over and over and it keeps poping up, very irritating. So then I go to tools and options thinking maybe I can change a setting to close it down. Well, something opens for a split second and closes again. So fast I can't even see what it is. So, apparently I cannot even access the tools! Again, irritating. Can someone please shed some light on these problems?? Is there a way to shut it down when not in use? And, can the tools/options be accessed? Am I doing something wrong, or what?
In case you need to know, I'm running Windows XP on an older computer, pentium 4, 2 GHz, 768 Ram and 16 GB of space left. Don't laugh, I can't afford a new one right now. Running Limewire 4.16.7
Thanks so much for any help you can offer.

Hi Darla, Welcome to the Gnutella Forums!!

Sounds like you may be infected. Try AVG 1st.

AVG(free) might be able to fix it. Be sure to update it before you scan your computer: AVG Free Advisor: AVG Anti-Virus Free, then follow the prompts.

Try the fix in this thread: To fix the limewire keeps popping up / no taskmanager bug do the following

Ok I am down to this point and I don't know how to reboot in safe mode

>Reboot to "safe mode"
>Go to "My Computer>C:/BFU folder".
>go to "BFU.exe"
>Select "folder icon"(top right)
>click "alcanchorty.bfu"
>Press "Execute" and let the program do it’s job. (You ought to see a progress bar if you did this correctly.)
>Wait for the complete script execution box to pop up and press "OK".
>Press "exit" to terminate the BFU program.
>Reboot into normal windows.
