Problems with install / re-install

I am getting the below error everytime I attempt to install LimeWire Pro (paid for it just now). I have even tried the LimeWire Basic and get the same erorr. I have tried going to the file and deleting and re-installing and that didn't work. I couldn't uninstall as it never fully installed. My PC died over the weekend and I had to re-install. Because I didn't have the original file, I just re-purchased but this isn't working. Any ideas?

Error opening file for writing:
c:\Program Files\LimeWire\LimeWire.exe
Click Abort to stop the installation,
Retry to try again, or Ignore to skip this file

You need to be logged in as the admin of the computer to install. Also defragment your computer. Sounds like there may be some issues.

Run this utility Crap Cleaner to clean up registry.

Make sure you only have one Java version on computer, & only install Java using the OFFLINE installer: Download Java software from Sun Microsystems
You should install Java before LW. :)

Is this that difficult?

Hi
I have downloaded the LimewireWin file and up to there everything it is ok. When it finish and I click on execute, once language is selected, 20 seconds I got an arror message that in summary says cannot write on the Limewire.exe file. My computer has Windows XP on it.

Anyone can help me on that?

I have even tried with the link that someone put in here (Limewire in full) and I got the same error message. I guess the problem might be a block on my computer or something like that. Any suggestions??

Thanks a lot in advance!

Which windows are you using? If using VISTA, then see the VISTA section Stickies which have installation answers. ;)

Still not working - Tried Everything

I have tried everything that has been suggested for a Windows XP which is what I am running:
  • Removed Java
  • Uninstalled LimeWire
  • Removed all LimeWire Associations (including hidden)
  • Ran the Cleaner
  • Re-installed Java (Off Line Version)
  • Re-installed LimeWire and received the same error
I am the Admin of this PC. I have tried on my work AND home pc and I get the same error. I explained this to the LimeWire customer support person in an email and asked for additional assistance. Now they won't even write back to me.:bangh:

Any other suggestions?

Is there any listing of LimeWire on the computer? If yes, check to see if there is a LW menu in Start menu > Programs > LW & look for uninstall. Otherwise check Remove programs control panel. Then run the Crap Cleaner program listed above.

Now, install Java: Download Java software from Sun Microsystems (choose only the offline installer, after downloading you can install it .. it's about 15 MB download size.)

Then download this version: Download ‘Other’ version & simply unzip & use!
