Default Unable to run LIMEWIRE ('older version running' error)

I've used Limewire for a number of years and never had any trouble installing and runnung the programme.

However ive just got a new pc and downloaded Limewire but when I try to run the programme I get the message ' an older version of Limewire is running please exit the programme on the system tray and then continue the installation'.

I dont know why I get this message because ive just downloaded the most up to date version and do not have any older version.

Any help would be gratefully appreciated guys

Thanks in advance

Just check in Task Manager to see whether there's a LW process running (I know there shouldn't be) & if there is, end the process.

Go through steps 1 - 7 here: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/333278-post2.html

See whether that helps.

Thanks for that Birdy.

I followed your instructions but I still get the same message about an older version of Limewire is running 'please close it down before continuing' even though there is no version running.

Any more suggestions would be very welcome.

Cheers

If you had downloads backed up & then you moved them onto the new computer, make sure those aren't stored in a folder with limewire as part of the name.

Now use your computer's search to look for all files & folders with limewire in the name (search hidden files & folders as well) & delete what you find.

Then run ccleaner again. Crap Cleaner

Thanks again for your advice Birdy.

Ive just tried all of those suggestions and it still gives me the same message ' an older version of Limewire is running please exit and retry'

This is so frustrating as I know there is no version of Limewire on this computer. I did not transfer any data from my old computer as I havent got around to that yet, but still the same message every time.

Any other suggestions would be gratefully recieved

regards

Well, I'm stumped

Which OS are you using? Are you the only user of your computer?

When you re-downloaded LW, did you use this link rather than LW's download page: http://www9.limewire.com/download/LimeWireWin-full.exe

If you set up a new user account on your computer, does the same thing happen when installing to that account?

Try this version of LW. It's an older version of mine. I don't know why that should make any difference, but it won't hurt to try LW basic 4.16.0.exe

Hi Birdy

Thanks for your swift reply. I downloaded the older version that you posted a link for and it worked. I then downloaded the most up to date version and that also worked and I am now up and running.

Thanks again your a star
