1608 (Unable to create InstallDriver instance) is constant, unabiding and funking silly for many Win2K users. I'm sure that you realize this by now.
MY HISTORY:
I am running Win2K with ALL of the latest updates and patches (as of 29/03/02, 1328 GMT).
Limewire was never previously installed. Morpheus RC1 uninstalled. Reboot. Gnucleus 1.6.3 installed. Reboot. Gnucleus working 2 weeks. Find Limewire 2.3 at
http://www.gnutellanews.com. JRE 1.3 uninstalled. Reboot. JRE 1.4 installed. Reboot. Install Limewire 2.3.1*. 1608. Reboot. Install Limewire 2.3.1, 1608. Reboot. Install Limewire 2.3.1, 1608. Reboot. Install Limewire 2.3.1, 1608. Stop caring about LimeWire. Install Limewire 2.3.1, Reboot. 1608. Give up. Re-start Gnucleus. Gnucleus still working.
I think that it's fair to say that this is more than anyone should be asked to do to install any app without proper warnings/readme notes or etc.
Thank you for the program. I know it takes a massive amount of work to get it to this point. However, you must realize that if Limewire doesn't consistently install on an advertised platform without a CLEARLY defined workaround/fix, how should users continue (or start) to care? From what I've seen in these forums. this is not an problem isolated to a small handful of users (in regards to Win2K).
Please, quit funking around with us and please get it right soon. Most of us could (and might) wait until then (as long as the functionality BS ends with this release).
In the meantime, we will be using Gnucleus (
http://www.gnucleus.net) until you tell us when Limewire is ready for prime time on Win2K.
Please, notify Win2K users when it works, not simply when it's available. Let's quit wasting each other's time, please?
*No, Gnucleus 1.6.3 was not running after reboot or install.
