These volunteers keep the board organized and moving. Moderators are authorized to: (in order of increasing severity) Move posts to the correct forums. Many times, members post in the wrong forum. These off-topic posts may impede the normal operation of the forum. Edit posts. Moderators will edit posts that are offensive or break any of the House Rules. Delete posts. Posts that cannot be edited to comply with the House Rules will be deleted. Restrict members. This is one of the last punishments before a member is banned. Restrictions may include placing all new posts in a moderation queue or temporarily banning the offender. Ban members. The most severe punishment. Three or more moderators or administrators must agree to the ban for this action to occur. Banning is reserved for very severe offenses and members who, after many warnings, fail to comply with the House Rules. Banning is permanent. Bans cannot be removed by the moderators and probably won't be removed by the administration. The Rules 1. Warez, copyright violation, or any other illegal activity may NOT be linked or expressed in any form. Topics discussing techniques for violating these laws and messages containing locations of web sites or other servers hosting illegal content will be silently removed. Multiple offenses will result in consequences. 2. Spamming and excessive advertising will not be tolerated. 3. There will be no excessive use of profanity in any forum. 4. There will be no racial, ethnic, or gender based insults, or any other personal attacks. 5. Pictures may be attached to posts and signatures if they are not sexually explicit or offensive. 6. Remember to post in the correct forum. Take your time to look at other threads and see where your post will go. If your post is placed in the wrong forum it will be moved by a moderator. 7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Please do not respond directly to the member - a moderator will do what is required. 8. Any impersonation of a forum member in any mode of communication is strictly prohibited and will result in banning. 9. Multiple copies of the same post will not be tolerated. Post your question, comment, or complaint only once. There is no need to express yourself more than once. Duplicate posts will be deleted with little or no warning. 10. Posts should have descriptive subjects. Vague titles such as "Help!", "Why?", and the like may not get enough attention to the contents. 11. Do not divulge anyone's personal information in the forum, not even your own. This includes e-mail addresses, IP addresses, age, house address, and any other distinguishing information. Don´t use eMail addresses in your nick. 12. Signatures may be used as long as they are not offensive or sexually explicit. 13. Failure to show that you have read the forum rules may result in forum rules breach infraction points or warnings awarded against you which may later total up to an automatic temporary or permanent ban. Supplying system details is a prerequisite in most cases, particularly with connection or installation issues. Violation of any of these rules will bring consequences, determined on a case-by-case basis. Thank You! Thanks for taking the time to read these forum guidelines. We hope your visit is helpful and mutually beneficial to the entire community. |

The beta version of LimeWire 1.6d is now available for download at http://www.limewire.com/index.jsp/download_beta. The new features in this release (over 1.6c) are: -System tray support on all flavors of Windows -Installer should be slightly more robust on Windows -Some minor bug fixes We'd appreciate your help in testing this version. Thanks in advance. Sincerely, LimeWire team

> The connection logic in 1.6d is the same as in LimeWire 1.4b. > None of that code changed. Can you send your limewire.props > files for both 1.4b and 1.6d (if you've still got it) to > crohrs at limewire dot com. I've sent you the file. > I'm guessing you're firewalled? Yes, I am firewalled. However, if you look at the message "Can't connect with Version 1.6b" by gtford, the guy is having the exact same problem, and he is not firewalled. If like you said it's the same connection logic, then it's just a silly bug somewhere, and the only problem is reproducing it. As a matter of fact, nothing at all is showing up in the grid window that's in the Connected Hosts portion of the Connections tab, no matter which Connect button I click. My system is Wi***, and gtford is running WinME. Please let me know if you need any more information.

I am connected to the net via a server that uses IP Masquerading. Version 1.4 connects without problems while the 1.6 versions do not. Bearshare 2.2.6 also manages to connect. I am running Win2000. I hope you can find and remove that nasty bug soon. Last edited by marv : August 4th, 2001 at 12:53 AM.

I can't get as far as connecting, because the program will not install. All goes well till I get the message "Limewire is now installing the Java2TM Runtime Environment, v 1.3.1. This may take a few minutes. Please wait." I wait and wait, and nothing happens. Sometimes it doesn't even get that far - I receive the error message: 'An installation support file "C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\[bb2943f9-0cc5-4da2-95fe-b5c6e41eb03e}\j2re-1_3_1-win.exe" could not be installed. Access is denied.' I have tried running from current location and saving then running, same result. And the problem is that I had to remove v 1.4 before I could even try to install. Is that useable version still available anywhere?

To the people who say they can't connect with 1.6x: When you start up your LimeWire and go to the Connections tab, does anything appear there? If so what? If the answer is no, here's an experiment to try: <ol> <li>Go to the connections tab. <li>Make sure "Keep this many connections" is set to 3. <li>Make sure LW has no connections up. (If it's trying some, delete them.) <li>Press "clear" on the HostCatcher, in the bottom right corner. <li>Type in "gnutellahosts.com" and press "add". <li>Tell me what happens. Does it connect to gnutellahosts.com? Do addreses fill up in the bottom right corner? You can also repeat the experiment with "router.limewire.com". </ol> kiriuja: thanks for the limewire.props file. I was hoping it was a configuration issue, but I don't see any problems. Hopefully the above experiment will resolve the problem. -Christopher Rohrs

> When you start up your LimeWire and go to the > Connections tab, does anything appear there? If so what? No, nothing appears in the grid window that's supposed to show hosts it's connected to or is trying to connect to. > If the answer is no, here's an experiment to try: ... I tried the experiment. Still nothing shows up in the grid window. That is, the Add button has no effect.

We just tried the 1.6d installer on our OS/X machine and it worked just fine. Are you positive you downloaded the whole thing? Did you run it by double-clicking? Did the error message contain "Main" or "main"? (Case matters here.) Any other information you can offer? -Christopher Rohrs
