Moderators

There are senior members on the forums who serve as Moderators. These volunteers keep the board organized and moving.
Moderators are authorized to: (in order of increasing severity)
Move posts to the correct forums. Many times, members post in the wrong forum. These off-topic posts may impede the normal operation of the forum.
Edit posts. Moderators will edit posts that are offensive or break any of the House Rules.
Delete posts. Posts that cannot be edited to comply with the House Rules will be deleted.
Restrict members. This is one of the last punishments before a member is banned. Restrictions may include placing all new posts in a moderation queue or temporarily banning the offender.
Ban members. The most severe punishment. Three or more moderators or administrators must agree to the ban for this action to occur. Banning is reserved for very severe offenses and members who, after many warnings, fail to comply with the House Rules. Banning is permanent. Bans cannot be removed by the moderators and probably won't be removed by the administration.

The Rules

1. Warez, copyright violation, or any other illegal activity may NOT be linked or expressed in any form. Topics discussing techniques for violating these laws and messages containing locations of web sites or other servers hosting illegal content will be silently removed. Multiple offenses will result in consequences.

2. Spamming and excessive advertising will not be tolerated.

3. There will be no excessive use of profanity in any forum.

4. There will be no racial, ethnic, or gender based insults, or any other personal attacks.

5. Pictures may be attached to posts and signatures if they are not sexually explicit or offensive.

6. Remember to post in the correct forum. Take your time to look at other threads and see where your post will go. If your post is placed in the wrong forum it will be moved by a moderator.

7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Please do not respond directly to the member - a moderator will do what is required.

8. Any impersonation of a forum member in any mode of communication is strictly prohibited and will result in banning.

9. Multiple copies of the same post will not be tolerated. Post your question, comment, or complaint only once. There is no need to express yourself more than once. Duplicate posts will be deleted with little or no warning.

10. Posts should have descriptive subjects. Vague titles such as "Help!", "Why?", and the like may not get enough attention to the contents.

11. Do not divulge anyone's personal information in the forum, not even your own. This includes e-mail addresses, IP addresses, age, house address, and any other distinguishing information. Don´t use eMail addresses in your nick.

12. Signatures may be used as long as they are not offensive or sexually explicit.

13. Failure to show that you have read the forum rules may result in forum rules breach infraction points or warnings awarded against you which may later total up to an automatic temporary or permanent ban. Supplying system details is a prerequisite in most cases, particularly with connection or installation issues.

Violation of any of these rules will bring consequences, determined on a case-by-case basis.

Thank You! Thanks for taking the time to read these forum guidelines. We hope your visit is helpful and mutually beneficial to the entire community.

I'd like to be able to type in the genre of the music instead of it selecting it from a list in Mac OS X

Default decentral Update and Distribution System

I just had an idea how LimeWire updates could be distributed more easily for Users and far less resource hungry for developers (and with which Upgrading would also become more natural for Users).

It is to distribute New major Versions just like your distribute QRP-Tables. For this, LimeWire needs to have a signature-checking mechanism integrated, so only trusted content (the program-updates) are being sent actively through the network.

I got to that Idea, because a senator in california wants to make distributing p2p-software without a way to censor it illegal. So I thought: Do the programmers need to be exposed?

Any program which gets a new Version automatically begins distributing it to its peers, but it also contacts random nodes from the HostCatcher, so that determining a first source gets pretty hard (most files travel the standard Query-Tree, but there are at all times other trees springing to life).

It would need have more than one key, so that multiple key together, maybe three or so, can revoke another key (which the owner of that key should also be able to do) and at the same time multiple keys together should be able to introduce a new key.

But I don't want to go to deep into details.

This would make the network somewhat more homogenous (updating gets far easier) and would completely avoid reliance on any central source, because even updates would be done via a decentralized structure.

That way even shutting down the LimeWire website couldn't disrupt the developement of LimeWire, and there would be far less incentive for the music- and film-industry (RIAA and MPAA) to try it.

As a far fetched thought it might even be possible to build a CVS-System (maybe relying on patches) on top of Gnutella, so that even the developement would become decentral (and mostly unstoppable, because files are being pssed through the network and also randomly, so you can only find the first source with very much effort, and thhen you can't be certain it really is the first source.

i never had a problem w D&D or renaming files (as the original info is still there if you hover the mouse over the file) and have upgraded to 4.2.6 just few days ago + am VERY disappointed these options have been removed. i can't sort music by style or groove now + can't even check alphabetically as some tunes have a track number first, or a music type or are just misspelt!

can you tell me the last version of lw that had these facilities as i want to uninstall (btw- why can add/remove progs never fully remove lw, even if i then do find/files and manually remove stuff i still get the install wizard telling me there's an older version. i've had to use killbox.exe) 4.2.6 + go by to my previous state of bliss!

Wink Renaming Downloaded Files

I can't believe we cannot rename files. Like on Kazaa Lite, you should be able to rename a file once you download it. Unless I'm missing something as a new member, I don't see an option for that. I like to keep my files in a certain order, but I am forced to view the name of that file as it was entered by the original user.

Please add that option, or if we have that option, please tell me how to use it.

Thanks much!

Rename is added back in the current beta, which will be released into production very shortly. Drag/Drop within the library will follow soon.

Default Renaming files

That's great! Thanks for your reply.

Can you tell me when the current beta is supposed to be released, and will all current members be able to update to it? Did I understand correctly that the drag/drop will be added shortly thereafter?

Thanks, again.

Default UNshared folders in Library

Please show unshared folders in red in the library (just like unshared files are shown in red).

Thanks

You can download the current betas at any time by going to the beta page. Each download page (free, or pro) has a link to the betas below the main links. The betas will be released into production shortly -- there's a few small problems we want to take care of first.

You can already drag files from within LimeWire to the desktop or other applications. For example, I routinely drag files from the library or download area into other folders on my desktop. Drag/Drop within the library (dragging a file from one shared folder into another) will be re-added when we make LimeWire recognize 'drop' activity. Along with that, you'll be able to drop files/folders from the desktop and LimeWire will ask if you want to share those files.

We'll look into making unshared folders in red. The only folder that could ever be unshared, though, is the 'Saved Files' folder.

If PFS is off--won't all incompletes be also unshared (making that folder also eligible for red)?

But won't that scare a great many people! At present files in red in the incomplete folder are ones that have lost their ability to downld for whatever reason. That issue was my 1st reason for posting on the forum. Library Items in Red How about a different colour or method.

Default Unlimited Searching

It would be nice if you could keep the search open for an unlimited amount of time so more sources could be found. Then having the option to stop the search when you were satisfied with how many results you found.
