 No, no hardware firewall.....just Norton 2003

Alright. Try waiting a bit to get a stable connection with good hosts. Check LW to make sure its using the ports you opened in Norton's Firewall. Sometimes, I've noticed, LW listens on port 6348 for some people, and if they only open 6346, it messes things up. After that, I'm not sure what to say, maybe someone who knows more than I will read this and help you out.

In my experience, Limewire only uses 6348 if another p2p software already uses 6346. Are you running other p2p software concurrently with limewire?

If I remember my time using norton fw i had to allow the program to access the internet, not just open the port. When I ran limewire the first time, norton asked whether i wanted to allow 'sun microsystems java something' to access the internet. Norton doesn't recognize lw as limewire.

hope that helps, good luck!

I am using a mac os 9.2 and tried for months and could not connect. Did all the reinstalls, left it on for hours. Finally gave up. Last week I upgraded to internet explorer 5.1.6 and decided to try limewire one more time. It immediately connected, stayed connected and have been able to download ever since. It sounds crazy, but it worked for me. For all of you who have tried everything else, it may be worth a try

this is the weirdmost thing i've ever heard. internet explorer is a http browser, how the #$@ should that affect gnutella?

did the upgrade come from apple? maybe it contained more than just internet explorer, something that made limewire work.

or, more likely, during installation some custom settings got reset to default which allowed limewire to work.

in any case, thanks for sharing.

Seems a bit more likely to me that, juding from his post, it sounds as if he stopped trying to get LW to work a couple months ago. He tried again, dled a new version, and lo and behold, the new version fixed his bug.

I could be wrong, but from what he wrote, it sounds as he implies that he downloaded a new version of LW. If so, I think I explain it above, if not, beats me.

Hooray!!! I can't figure out why, but Limewire is mysterously working. I certainly didn't change anything on my end. Hoping everyone else with the micro-mini-second green dot to red dot has a similar resolution.

osu_uma June 17th, 2003 11:27 AM

ok, from now on, we'll tell everybody with the brief green dot syndrome to wait for a miracle ;-)

Used Kazaa and LW2.8.6 at the same time - no problem.
Got the message to update and like an idiot I did.

Could not connect at all until I surfed these pages and worked it out.

Disconnected Kazaa and I had no problem connecting. Seems Kazaa and LW3.0.2 both use port 6346

Pity, double downloading is better, especially PC and Mac apps

Blackbird June 24th, 2003 06:11 PM

They don't. Kazaa uses the FastTrack protocol, and someone correct me if i'm wrong, but only gnutella aps use 6346, so FastTrack must have something else.
