Thumbs down Connection problems

I am very disapointed with limewire,

as a network admin (with all root access to all routing and FW devices) from a major european ISP, I should have been able to solve those connetion issues but no. And I can tell you, we are not filtering nor blocking P2P traffic.

I have found only two alternatives:

*1: Back to school (well, sorry I don't have time for that)

*2: Switch to other gnutella softs (BearShare 4.2.8 work just fine after installing it just by clicking on the exe file)

I was a big fan from limewire, but I think this is the last time I'm trying to use it, sorry folks versions 3+ arr not good.

I can only encourage you to fix this problem ASAP as LimeWire was a very good

Interesting Jo-bi

Could the filters be upstream of you? (The recent New York power failure shouldn't be enough of a factor, but http://www.limewire.com/english/content/netsize.shtml shows a drop back to the bad old days of the beginning of this year).

One of my ISP's uses NBAR software, and they are also trying Sandvine. The other connects just fine, so it's not the new LW versions that is the problem here.

As an admin for a major European ISP, would you be able to find out why LW is having connection problems with certain ISP's?

Talking woot!

Okay. So LimeWire works. I found the problem under tools/options - advanced/firewalls and ports. All of the numbers were different for some reason or another..but now my firewall and port numbers are both 6348 and then number in the box in connections is 6346. Somehow that made it work and its been working since.

hi somekid

if you try 6346 in tools/options - advanced/firewalls and ports (the 6346 in the connections pane is there to allow you to connect to a known host that uses a different port) and you have trouble connecting, you'll know enough to ask your ISP if they block that port.

Still, LW comes with 6346 as the default, so I'd be curious to how that port got changed.

Any ideas?

I have no clue why it was 6348 and not 6346 then... I've also noticed that the more songs you download, the easier it is to reconnect but you also have to be able to connect a first time before you can download anything. Not that I've had problems at all... anymore . Oh and I thought maybe there's something to do with the javaw.exe program that comes with LimeWire... my firewall asks me if it can connect to the internet everytime I turn on LimeWire.. but it wasn't asking when it wasn't connecting and I think I did something with that when it finally started working. I'm not sure... I don't remember anymore but once it asked me it also turned on. So maybe the port numbers had nothing to do with my problem.

Thanks--and enjoy sharing. Maybe the rumoured "need to share 100 files" was a factor since you're connecting easier with more files. Cheers

Red face solution!!?

hello all

i just downloaded limewire and was having the same problem.
everytime i tried to connect it would turn green for a second and back to red again. but now i'm connected and this is how.......
copy some mp3s into your shared folder. restart your computer and then go online. run limewire and go into your shared folder. the mp3s you put in should appear. select one and click the "launch button". i'm not sure if i was then connected automatically or if it was after i clicked the connect button. either way thats what worked for me and i've i know idea why. also my firewall and port settings are at default 6346. using win me.

hope this works for ye

good luck

I know why it was changed to 6348.

Limewire can tell when you are using another gnutella program, for instance, aquisition, bearshare, etc. Because it detects another client using the default gnutella port 6346, it bumps up the port number once, and so and so forth for every active gnutella client.
