The modem is a speed stream 5200, but I already have the directions about how to set a static IP adress and how forward the ports for the modem. I just did not know if that is what i needed to do.

Thanks for Your help

It is listed at PortForward.com as a modem type that uses nat & requires port forwarding. So yes you should do it. 1. See Port Forwarding instructions for the Efficient Speedstream 5200 Router
2. See Force IP instructions & sample image

Use Port 6346 for all port settings.

I have tried everything, and i also can't connect. I'm using a Toshiba pcx2200 modem, no router. The test page says my test was successful, I am not using NAT. I followed the steps to set up Windows Firewall to allow Limewire to connect, but that doesn't work either. Limewired doesn't connect even when the firewall is turned off. I'm at my wits end. Any help would be appreciated. It used to work, even after SP2 update. Oh, and I ran that patch to change the number of connections also.

masterchief: Leave LW running for up to an hour & see if it improves & then do this test: Bug Report instructions & sample image & report back whether it says true or false.
Update your Java: Java 1.4.2 If no improvement then do this:
Also make a note of all your LW settings & then quit LW & delete LW's Preferences folder called .limewire & found here: C:/Documents And Settings/your_username/.limewire Next time you open LW, it will create a new Prefs folder.

I ran the bug report and it said false. I have deleted the .limewire folder several times, and I'm not sure which Java version I had, so I updated anyways. Still no dice. I guess I will leave it on for an hour or so like you suggested.

The problem with SP2 is that there's no simple one answer to solve the issues. One solution fixes it for some but not for all & likewise for other solutions posted. That's why there's been more than one solution posted. As for your firewall, perhaps you should double-check your settings. Something is blocking LW's access. Exactly what is a mystery at the moment.

Go here & what does it say?: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ It should say your test page was a success. If not, tell us what happened.

SP2 is totally unnecessary for the individual user. It was designed for major company's with big networks but it's even caused many of them problems. Search around the net & you'll find plenty of commentary from experts who have said SP2 is not necessary for individual users & should even be avoided.

That page says its successful. Limewire actually worked after SP2 installation, this is a recent development. Thanks for your help, though.

Finally connected after 40 minutes or so. Am I going to have to do that every time? Thanks for the help, Lord of the Rings.

masterchief: See how it goes. Do you have many incomplete files? Were you in the habit of using the Resume button function? Resume is fine for the odd file. But if you do it to too many, it results in the files queuing for much, much longer & can play havoc with LW's connection quality.

Some hints for optimising LW: A well set-up LW can start to automatically continue its dwnlding after it's settled down perhaps 2 out of 3 times you open LW. Optimising LW & Maximising Uplds & Dwnlds A (1st post only) & also Part B which is even better & last & least are search & dwnld hints.
