I can't connect please help

Hey Guys,

I have tried everything, I think. I have tried deleting the .limewire thing.I have tried to configure the firewall from service pack 2 with the help on the limewire web page. I don't think I would have to do the port forwarding thing because I have a speedstream 2500 modem and it has a Usb port, ethernet port power cord port and the port where you put the DSL line in.The USB line goes to my computer that does not connect and the ethernet cord goes to my router. So this computer is not really connected to the router but it is connected to the modem directly. So i would not have to open a port. I also updated the Java thing.
Please help me I have been trying to get it connected for like 3 weeks.

After you delete the LW prefs folder, the next time you open LW it will create a new prefs folder. That's fine.
BYRDIE can you tell us the brand name & model number(s) of your modem & router? This could be blocking much of your access if it's a NAT modem.

BYRDIE November 28th, 2004 09:10 AM

ALL I KNOW IS THAT I HAVE COMCAST(BROADBAND) WHICH IS DSL, IONO ALL THESE TECHINCAL TERMS, SO EXCUSE ME IF I SAY SOMETHING STUPID, IT WORKED FOR LIKE 3 DAYS AGO, NOW ITS SAYIN THAT IT CANT FIND THE PORT TO CONNECT, AND I TURNED MY FIREWALL COMPLETELY OFF, IT STILL WOULDN`T WORK, WHAT DO I DO?????????

BYRDIE November 28th, 2004 09:19 AM

HOW DO I FIND THE MODEL NUMBER, SO U CAN GIVE ME INSTRUCTIONS TO FOWARD THIS THING, CUZ FROM WHAT I HEARD BROADBAND(COMCAST) USES NAT, SO WHERE DO I FIND THE MODEL NUMBER

Lord of the Rings November 28th, 2004 11:38 AM

The model number should be on the top side or bottom of the modem/router. eg: rannorton specified that his modem brand is Speedstream & its model no. is 2500 If you can find the brand name, chances are the model number will be close by.

To test if you have a NAT modem visit this site & read what it says in the grey box: http://www.u.arizona.edu/~trw/games/nat_or_not.php It will say whether you have a NAT modem or not. Easy eh! ;)

Hey lord of the rings

I went to http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ and it said this page can not be displayed. What should i try next??

rannorton November 28th, 2004 12:23 PM

Lord of the rings

I did the test at http://www.u.arizona.edu/~trw/games/nat_or_not.php
and apparently i use nat, what ever that is.

Lord of the Rings November 28th, 2004 01:51 PM

NAT refers to network address translation, a system which lets you share an Internet connection among many computers while allowing for unique IP addresses for each computer. Many DSL and Cable modem switches use NAT. In ordere to combat its blocking of ports you need to do what's known as port forwarding. But you'll eneed to give us the specific details of modem brand name & model no. for us to give you instructions for how to do. The fact you failed both tests is not good, so you must pay a lot of attention to all instructions given to you to make sure you get them right. Any small mistake & you could be back where you started or worse.

1. Configure ALL of your firewalls: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml
2. Supply all details requested!
3. Update your Java: Java 1.4.x Or else Java 1.5 (take the JRE)
