You've been really helpful in your suggestions ... I will call my ISP today and get them to open all the ports. I rea;;y think it's something to do with my laptop and not the coonection. I've installed LW Pro on my home computer and it works fine. I use my laptop at home over my wireless connection and it doesn't work. I also tried directly connecting it through the ethernet cable - doesn't work. I've tried connecting at work (ethernet cable) and it doesn't work where others in the office have no problem connectiong to LW. So I have to believe it's not my ISP and it's something internally set wrong on my computer.

Like I said before ... I've deleted the preferances, have the latest Java installed, no firewall running, tried the "test" smaple page, tried manually entering diff. ports, etc. Nothings working. I really do think it's something with the computer not allowing this network to connect ... probably something very simple too.

Are you able to connect using other internet applications?

Reason I ask is I'm not sure which computer you are using to connect to the forum here.

I was just looking around in 1) start 2) contol panel 3) internet options 4)secuity 5)restricted sites 6)sites. This will provide a list of all your restricted sites. Make sure LimeWire is nor listed there.

Also check your Network connections see what it says under LAN or Highspeed internet. I have a 1394 connection (1394 net adapter)listed there and Local area connection (Broadcom NetXtreme 57XXX 1 Gb ethernet....), Both are showing connected.

Make sure it (they) are configured properly. If I recall correctly I had to reconfigure the net adapter when I went from dialup to highspeed.

Just a thought

Yes I can connect using other applications and both connections are open. Limewire is not restricted either.

Well I'm just about out of ideas. You have probably done this, but in LW 1) tools 2) options 3) connections is the connect at startup checked, and under advanced, system startup, run on system startup checked.

Do you run XP SP2 or SP1 on the computer you're having problems with? SP2 reduces simultaneous connections & for some strange reason prevents some people connecting with LW. There's fixes such as both MS & 3rd party patches, but the most effective one I've heard of is uninstalling SP2! lol :D

You have D-Link. Is it port forwarded to your other computer? Only one computer can port forward a particular port no. Each of the others would require different no.'s But I doubt this is your connection problem it would affect your upload ability.

Do you have the identical firewalls, etc. on your other computer you can connect with. Another thought which probably won't work, but least worth a try is to copy your LW preferences folder from one computer to the other.

Back to the SP2: it was moreso designed for the large networked companies. Not so much for the home user. But people update thinking it's the thing to do b/c M$ gives them a message that they should. SP2 cost business across USA & the world a lot of money in loss of income due to the problems it created. SP2 works fine on some computers but not others. That's windows for you. Thanks Bill Gate$.
