Please Help I haven't been able to connect after trying all the advise from these postings. LW keeps saying it's connecting but to no avail. I have version LM 4.4 running on Windpws XP on my laptop (P4). I can't connect over a wireless network or from the normal line. I've dumped the prefrences and like I said tried everything. Since I paid for this version it'd be nice if I could get it working. I had the free version on my desktop system at home and it work fine. Is there anything else I can try or am I helpless? Do I need to give you more info to figure out what's going on - let me know. Thanks |
It would be helpful to have more information. Machine Type Operating Sysytem & SP Ram HDD Modem FireWalls etc. Have you configured your Firewall to allow port 6346 full access. Have you contacted your network administartor to see if they are blocking port 6346. |
More information Can't connect to LM OS Name Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Version 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2 Build 2600 System Manufacturer TOSHIBA System Model Satellite 5200 System Type X86-based PC Processor x86 Family 15 Model 2 Stepping 7 GenuineIntel ~2194 Mhz BIOS Version/Date TOSHIBA Version 1.30, 29/04/2003 Total Physical Memory 512.00 MB Available Physical Memory 181.20 MB Total Virtual Memory 2.00 GB Available Virtual Memory 1.96 GB HARDDRIVE SPACE 30 gig left (60 gig drive) MODEM - Motorolla Cable Modem and Dlink Wireless Router NO Firewalls on (and yes I configured them to allow 6346 full access) I will contact my network admin. as well. Tried everything I could imagine. |
ask your network administrator if they are blocking port 6346. That is the port LW uses. Some network administrators have this port blocked. You May ask him to unblock it so you can use your p2p program. |
Both Motorolla & D-Link tend to use NAT firewalls in their devices. That may mean port forwarding (opening port 6346 or other that LW can access.) Yes LW can work thru any port that is open & is legal for it to access but it must be configured to do so. ALTERNATE PORTS that you can use. |
So I guess the question is ... how do I change the port to something LW recognizes? |
Slowly going insane One other point to note ... my desktop computer is connected to the router (cable) running the free version of LW and it works fine. My service provider said that it can't be on their end if that is happening. Another interesting fact is that LW will not work at my office either (connect to their network). I would rather have my money back if I can't get it to work. This is so frustrating. |
I gave you a link to alternative ports! Just experiment around. Remember with the newest version you have 2 main options: UPnP & manual port forward. Try both. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say ‘Test Page was a Success’. What happens when you go there? Did you try some Fixes for Limewire Try them one by one. |
Tried all of those fixes and did the simple test and nothing is any different. I tried some of the other alt ports you gave me and they also didn't work. Have you ever run into this much trouble before? Anything else I can try? |
I've heard recently of some satellite services offering some strange port no.'s. Is yours the same. If you wanted to play net games or do video conferencing, you'd need to have several ports open. Ask your isp how you can go about this b/c this is why you bought their service. |
