If the spyware is the only thing holding you back from upgrading to 2.1.2 then I got a solution . :)

v1.4 problems

I also am having trouble with not being able to connect to the servers with version 1.4. I downloaded and installed the latest version and it worked fine, but I could not handle the flashing ad that blinks ridiculously fast from red to white at the bottom, so I uninstalled and went back to the old version. The flashing could probably cause someone to have an epileptic fit!

I don't mind the bundled software, and I do understand the desire to make a buck making this product, but is there ANY way to get rid of the ad at the bottom? I would be happy to upgrade if someone can resolve that.

Is there a Mac version of Clean Limewire?

VTOLfreak January 31st, 2002 04:47 PM

No not yet .
We have a Windows and Linux version .
We are a team of 4 people , we would make a Mac version if we had someone with enough knowledge of Mac's . :(

VTOL freak --- You can't make a Mac version but you made a Linux version? Mac OS X is UNIX! It shouldn't be too different from Linux eh?!

IIII CCCCAAANNN'T'TTTT CCOOONNNNEECCCCCTTTT!!!!!!!!! AARRRRRRRRGGGHHHHHHHHH

This is soooo frustrating!!!! I've been unable to connect AT ALL for the past 3 weeks. I've read through these forums and it appears that some of you have been experiencing the same problem-- the sudden refusal to work at approximatly 3 weeks ago. Also, at about the same time, WinMx stopped working as well!!

I tried the telnet thing and nothing happened... the window just closed after a while...

This can't be my ISP can it?? Nooo

My ISP has been known for firewall crap prior to this... Limewire was teh only one that would work despite the firewall. But now it's not even working. I have a feelign it's not my ISP but rather Limewire.

Please, can you please fix this? :'( :'(

VTOLfreak February 25th, 2002 07:59 AM

First of all : I only make the Windows Installers .
TruStarWarrior and GNU Warrior do the compiling .
I have nothing to do with the Mac and Linux releases .

Second : If LW can't conect it's your ISP .
Aslong as there are functional ping hosts in the autoconnect tab LW should find hosts .

connection problems

This is getting to be really frustrating, each time i connect to limewire, it goes through the motions of looking for hosts, and then decides to disconnect.
This seems to be a recurring problem for limewire, judging by the response. What can i do?

Unregistered April 2nd, 2002 06:02 PM

Hi...
Just downloaded the LW osX version, and I can't connect. I'm running through a T1 connection, and have done the telnet test--it comes back with "gnutella ok" with port 6349, but not 6346. I am at a university but am not connecting through university ethernet connection. I have also added bearshare connections to my autoconnect list. It runs through all the autoconnects at startup and then they disappear without doing anything. If I hit connect, the round circle at the bottom turns green briefly (1-2 sec.) This is my first time trying to use a program like this, so any help would be appreciated. Not to mention I'm not that great with my new ibook yet...Thanks guys.

How do u get lime to work with a firewall?

I am having a **** hard time of connect. I turned off my firewall and it worked fine but then i closed out of it and then it just stoped. what the **** is goin on with this peice of ****. Hell i could make a program 100 times better than this. Morpheus is better than this hell winmx is even better. So if u r having the samw problems with limewire than i would suggest of whiching over and going to winmx spelled just like that. it is very easy to use so do what u want. But if they don't get this **** fixed then i am goin with a different provider of music. LIMEWIRE THIS GOES OUT TO YOU. YOUR PROGRAM IS A PEICE OF ****, HELL MY GRANDMOTHER COULD MAKE A BETTER ONE AND SHE IS DEAD, HELL MAYBE A 2 YEAR OLD CAN MAKE A BETTER PROGRAM THAN THIS ****.

Unregistered April 8th, 2002 12:22 AM

i cant connect either. are you all fixing the problems or have you already done it? if youve done it i still cant connect. why cant this work like the other programs? this had soo much potential. if the connection issue was cool this would be a shiznit of a program.

Liz April 8th, 2002 12:47 PM

Cant freking connect eith ...ahhh!

Ramble April 8th, 2002 09:44 PM

Gentlmen,

Isn't gnutella a true P2P protocol? How then is it possible that Limewire can't connect to a gnutella hive when other gnutella clients can - even with the default gnutella.com servers listed first?

Unregistered April 13th, 2002 06:57 AM

hi
i have tried placing connect3.gnutellanet.com:6346 at the top of my connections list but this is still not doing anything!

Can you help me at all?

Taliban April 13th, 2002 07:28 AM

When LimeWire doesn't connect, it's usually because of your internet connection. Are you behind a firewall/router/proxy whatever? Maybe you have to open port 6347 or whatever you want to use for LimeWire...

Connection Problem

I'm on a network, the master computer can connect but mine doesnt. I have all the settings right but I still can't connect. All my settings are exactly the same as the masters'. Still no connection. Please help me!!! My port is 6346, just like everyone says to set it as and it still doesnt work.

tmuresianu April 29th, 2002 12:57 PM

I can't connect, and it doesn't seem like limewire even looks for hosts. I've added all the gnutellanets, but when I click connect the light just flashes green once and then goes to red. I keep the connection window open and it doesn't display anything to indicate that it's trying to connect to any of the hosts. What gives?

I use limewire PRO under mac os 9.1 on a powerbook G4, on a network which allows P2P file sharing.

Bswaney May 9th, 2002 09:03 PM

No luck at all getting mine running. Been that way all this week. :(

Come on Lime Wire. Fix this crap.

Connecting Limewire

I'm certainly confused about connecting Limewire.

No matter which hosts I try to connect to, I get about one or two seconds of connection, then it's dropped. What I find most baffling is that downloads are going on in the background without being connected - that doesn't make sense to me!

I originally got a connection straight away today, but since the connection was 'reset by peer'; nowt :-(

I've tried removing the quick connections, downloading the .net file, using the alternative hosts (e.g. bearshare), but nothing makes a difference...

I hope you find a solution to your problems!

Royston Day

Taliban May 14th, 2002 10:47 AM

What do you mean by "reset by peer"? Do you mean the connection was stopped by the remote host?

The .net file isn't a newer one. This one is from this morning (CET), but I don't think it will work, since it doesn't contain very many ip addresses.
ftp://anonymous:anonymous@whitedrag...rg/gnutella.net

First try entering router4.limewire.com : 6346 in the connections tab manually ( or 64.61.25.171 : 6346 if your DNS is down).
Did you try restarting LimeWire? - If it still doesn't connect, - check your connection first and then you may put the blame on LimeWire.

Unregistered May 14th, 2002 06:26 PM

It's definitely LimeWire. Won't work for anything. :(

Taliban May 14th, 2002 11:13 PM

Were you able to connect to router4.limewire.com? Try telnetting to router4.limewire.com port 6346. - If you can't, your ISP probably blocks it.

Yes - the remote host dropped the connection.

That url does not work for me(?)

Aha! Thank you - that gave me some connections straight away. BTW, I am not blaming Limewire! I did not indicate that in my post ... I think that the problem's net-based, not client based. Given the amount of useless gack clogging up the internet, I'm rather impressed it works at all.

Besides; having to portion out blame is a rather sad way of being, methinks ... I tend not to subscribe to that.

Royston

This is my gnutella.net file's correct address::

ftp://whitedragon.dyndns.org/gnutella.net

(mail to gregorio@gmx.li if unavailable)

Download it and copy it into your limewire directory (C:\program files\LimeWire). That should enabling you to connect if the pong caches (router.limewire.com etc.) don't get you connected.

Unregistered May 24th, 2002 01:46 PM

Tried it. Didn't help.

Taliban May 25th, 2002 12:05 AM

Then it's certainly a problem with your network configuration.

Ria Bacon May 27th, 2002 04:07 AM

New advice needed

New=bad;old=good
I should have stuck with what I had (v.2.3.4), but I was stupidly tempted by the all-singing all-dancing v.2.4.4 and installed it this p.m.

Since then no connections...

Taliban, I've followed all your advice to the letter and absolutely nothing happens after Limewire loads. Nothing has changed in my network configs since v.2.3.4, which worked without problem. I've a sneaking suspicion that this is related to the bundled spyware. I binned/blocked it with Ad-aware/ZoneAlarm as I did with previous versions of Limewire.

I remember though that v.2.4.4 connected the first time, only after I let JAVAWS.EXE online. I know that's spyware and I have since blocked its access ... and since have had no connection.

Coincidence??

Theala Sildorian June 5th, 2002 09:32 PM

Taliban--do you know how can I use the gnutella.net file you gave a link to on a Mac running OS X? Or will I have to add them in manuelly (god, I hope not--that's a lot of addresses <grin>)

Thanks in advance

Unregistered June 5th, 2002 09:43 PM

Nope, Mr. Rohr, it is still not fixed. I have tried to do everything you have said; however, I only manage to stay connected for 2 seconds. If my ISP blocks gnutella, then what can I do to make it stop? I use MacOSX

If you know, where you installed LimeWire (the folder with your LimeWire.jar), simply copy the gnutella.net file into that folder.

You will have to ask your ISP what exactly they are blocking. Maybe you simply can't use gnutella clients.

Hmm. I did that, and then started Limewire. Nothing--still using the original list I had.

why doesn't limewire work?

i paid the 14 bucks for unlimited limewire usage, but it has not worked for 2 weeks. when i click on limewire, i get a message advising me to copy and paste some message to bugs@limewire.com. this has done me good, as i have received no reply, and my limewire still does not work.

any suggestions?

telnet to router4.limewire.com 6346 and tell us if you receive the GNUTELLA OK string.

Unregistered June 15th, 2002 07:58 PM

I have the lastest version which has worked fine until recently. No adjustments that have been suggested in this forum have worked. Even did the test and got "Gnutella OK" so all's fine there. What's gone wrong with this system, everybody seems to be having the same problem.

MollyMaguire June 17th, 2002 09:52 AM

Telneting to router4

This was a suggestion already on the boards, I am sorry I did not specifically name it in my post as having been tried. I cannot connect via telnet to router4.limewire.com 6346.

Thank you for trying to help though. I appreciate the prompt response.

Connection problems

I paid to buy Limewire and it has worked pretty good up until now. WHen I open it up it starts to try to connect then it even connects to a max of 2 connections then they just dissapear.

Are you having trouble again?

What can I do to connect?

Thnx.

Taliban June 19th, 2002 08:43 AM

How long do you remain connect? Just a few seconds or even a minute or longer? You could try connecting to 'router4.limewire.com' port 6346 manually.

BassMan June 19th, 2002 08:46 AM

How do you connect manually? I am not a LimeWire expert yet.

Thanks

Taliban June 19th, 2002 08:51 AM

Bring up the connections tab (maybe you have to enable it in menu->view) and enter the address in the larger text field below. The port number is to be entered into the smaller text field on the right.

BassMan June 19th, 2002 08:56 AM

Taliban,

I entered the address as you suggested and I assume I go to file and then connect. I see the address in the connected hosts area for about a second then still nothing.

Anymore suggestions?
