Okay, there are two possibilities. Either something is wrong with your network configuration or a firewall / proxy / your ISP deny you any connection to router4.limewire.com:6346.

In the latter case you can connect by downloading a gnutella.net file ( ftp://whitedragon.dyndns.org/gnutella.net ) and copying into your LimeWire directory (c:\program files\limewire on windows or ~/LimeWire on Linux)

Taliban, I tried that...

I tried all that you suggested to BassMan and it did not help.

Where do you put the addresses from the ftp site? Just in a text file in the prog files? I cannot get anything.

For the record, it worked ok last night. My domain is insight.rr.com and they are not blocking.

Nevermind.

I just came up and I didn't make any changes. Go figure.

cannot stay connected

Up until the July 1 limewire was doing just fine. no problems getting connected to hosts and staying connected. Since then I've been lucky to stay connected for a couple of minutes and then boom no more hosts. Every attempt at reconnecting fails except quitting the program and starting over again. I've tried all of the "fixes" listed here to no avail. Any other suggestions? My ISP is AOL.

bobomon July 5th, 2002 03:58 PM

I could be wrong but all things being equal your last sentence may be the answer

My ISP is AOL.
-- A call to customer service might be helpfull... search this forum - this very question has come up elsewhere recently.

I'm not an AOL victim and I can't connect either. LW has worked on this pc, and I even think it has since I moved to 2.4.4Pro. I get a good Gnutella OK when telnetting, so my ISP isn't blocking me right? So then why no luck over the last week? If I change my keep approx _ conns up, I can watch the router.limewire.com, connect1 and an assortment of other hosts filter thru the Connections, but within maybe 10 seconds, they're all gone and I'm still disconnected.

I'm tempted to start digging thru the code, but I thought I paid for more than just ad-free software.

By the way, this all sounds like a the record industry conspiracy. But P2P should be a lot tougher to derail, shouldn't it?

All I can say is I have used 2.4.4 Pro since it was first realeased (April ?) with no problems - I am now using the beta 2.5.2 Pro with no problem other than the usual stuff... It might be a Limewire issue but I would tend to think not... have you tried any of the other clients... I like Shareaza as a second choice... maybe you can determin by using several clients whether it is napplication / system or ISP/Net issue.

Note 2.5.2Pro Beta is available form your Limewire Pro site... look at the bottom under Beta.

Good Luck :)

Thanks, I'll give the beta a try.

I tried adding connect3.gnutellanet.com in the connections tab but still not able to connect, can you help?

Share...?

I read somewhere that if we "share" files everything would be easier for everyone on limewire. Can someone please tell me exactly what steps one takes to share. Is it possible to share files that are in the process of downloading? (Also, why does downloading take so very long?) Any help will be greatly appreciated.

NEED HELP!!!!!!!!!!1

Unregistered July 16th, 2002 03:33 AM

You want a f... reply?!

Well it just doesnt work! It is god damn down or something.
It doesnt connect to anything.
This must be an intrigue by the NATO-governments.
They set all the ISPs under pressure not to allow anyone to connect to file-sharing servers. AHHH We are doomed!
They are comming to kill our networks!

Re: Share...?

You need to set up your "share" preferences under the "Preferences" part of the limewire program. There is a place where you type in the directory of the files you are willing to share, and you need to specify how many people can upload and the amount of bandwidth you are willing to supply for uploads under "upload." Also, in the monitor tab, you can enable the incoming searches.

Copy the file into your LimeWire directory (that's where your LimeWire.jar file is located).

If your internet connection is capable of being used for gnutella at all, this file should get you connected.
