ISP Blocking LW Hey guys !! U were all right tht my ISP might be blocking/regulating P2P ports or using file-sharing detecting software to detect LW!! For a change I just tried to connect through dial-up internet and to my suprise LimeWire immediately connected at Turbo-charged speed! So my PC setting are all optimum! Its only ISP blocking problem here!! So we hav a clear idea of my problem! Pls suggest something to get through, so I can connect to LW at perfect speed through my Cable connection(PPPOE connection). The ISP guys are denying tht they ever block any port or P2P software!! But I sense they are clearly lying! I know nothing about Proxy setting and modem/router configurations!! So PLS HELPPPPPP.................!! |
Panzer I have a feeling it might be your apartment complex that is doing the blocking. If they have been getting complaints about slow Internet from other users in the complex they may have blocked P2P networks. I have known of this happening before in apartment complexes. You best option is to try setting LimeWire for different ports until you hopefully find one that works. Someone may know of another way but I do not since you do not have access to the router. |
Hi Panzer, Guess you're correct when you're saying you're complex's operator is probably blocking p2p ports... I have the very same situation. I got a cable connection using PPPoE - I have to connect via a dialer software - and that seems to be the problem. For a few hours some days back, my PC created a strange new connection that would connect my computer to the internet automatically -WITHOUT me having to login. When this happened, LW would connect at full speeds. When I tried loging in through the dialer, LW was unable to connect. I logged off and tried using the connection my PC had created. And LW instantly connected again - at full speed. I hadn't even changed the ISP. It was the same ISP. Only once without their provided dialer. So it had to be the dialer software itself. Either that - or that connection which my PC automatically created was able to bypass all the ISP networks and firewalls and directly connect to the internet. I'm sad cause - as mysteriously as the connection was created, it also vanished. LW will not conncet as long as I am using the dialer software and a login process to connnect to the internet. Panzer, your PC settings are absolutely normal and I therefore say better not tamper with the PC/network settings. I guess your only solution is to connect to the internet through some other ISP. Regards, AG. P.S. If anyone has any idea how my PC created this new network connection (classified as Internet Gateway) the please let us know. |
Got LW to work again mates!! My LimeWire works again!! I had to just call the cable operater ,who I know for a decade and a half, and tell him to unblock GNUtella network ports!! He told me the ISP had told him to block the ports without giving any notice to subscribers so he had blocked it!! But since the blocking was under his control I could pursue him to open ports in the router on my building! So LW works perfectly with Turbo-Charged speeds!! The ISP keeps lying about they not blocking P2P ports but then mostly everything lies with cable operator, so he is the one u hav to go after!! Special Thanx to Grandpa, Ag101 and LOTR for letting me know the exact nature of my problem with ur suggestions!! Thank U!! |
