Hi there guys,
So glad to hear from you!
Hopper, I have LW off when I try to delete, because I don't want anyone trying to upload that file. And you're right, it's a batty file. But it won't let me rename it either, so I can't warn people off. I've tried to drag it out of my shared files, but it only makes another copy on my desktop. So frustrating. LW has never let me rename or delete from its library though it acts like it will. I go to the file through Win Explorer to delete or rename.
I have a Lexmark 4 in 1 printer and it works like a charm. I don't know much about HP, but four new black cartridges for free is not a bad deal!
I was sorry to hear that the workaround, having iTunes on 24/7, failed. But don't give up, IMHSN, try to find another program that will wake up the system regularly. Or maybe schedule a task, for every 15 minutes or so, anything that will cause your system to fire up.
I've never had anything but Norton for my firewall and virus scanner, but their file ccApp would not delete and really latched onto the memory. I'm always checking to make certain that the Window's firewall and scanner are off.
It was always a fight between ccApp and Windows Explorer, to see who got the cpu usage. Now if I could just keep Verizon's software from replicating svchost so I don't have six or more little 14 K executables running for no good reason, other than it might be a virus that's too new or too disguised for any of the virus scanners to catch. So far I've only run Norton's, Zone Alarm's and HouseCall. They all say my system is clean as a whistle, but it can't be. Too many little glitches happening.
I don't have the expertise to track down a virus myself. Since I'm heading to Baja this Thursday and coming back on Monday next. I'm debating on whether to take my system into Best Buy and have them give it try. It may take a new harddrive and a fresh Windows XP install. But I need my old files, so they could end up putting the virus right back on the new harddrive, if that truly is what I've got. Sigh.
Well, I bought a new computer desk, but I have to put it together, so I'm going to go play with that for awhile. I'll turn on LW and see what happens.
Bye for now!

hopper393 November 1st, 2005 10:42 AM

Hello grandma....
not sure what to say,,,I take it you don't have the clean sweep on your norton then.....???? bring up the system works....then utilities ...then system maintaince.....then clean sweep....browse on the bottom right....find your file or folder...then open and then wipe.....check it out and if its not installed ....you might put your norton disk bac in and check and see if you got it....most people don;t even know it is there....and as long as you install norton the typcial way you dont get it ,,,,but do a custom install then you do.....that is if you got the norton system works package....then you got clean sweep ...you just got to install and do a custom install....doing that you get a lot of extras you wouldnt have other wise....
did you ever check out that CClean ...you might try it and see what it might find....

http://www.ccleaner.com/

then couple guys over at after dawn swears by this for virus...you might want to turn norton off and install and just run it and see if it comes up with anything...you can always uninstall it after you run it .....something else do you have live update turned on with your norton.....???

http://free.grisoft.com/doc/2/lng/us/tpl/v5

like i said a couple of the techy guys that are on after dawn says this pretty good free virus software.....

take care love and ebnjoy your trip

Life is just full of disappointments, isn't it? My latest was finding out the 3 year parts and labor service plan with Best Buy that I got for this computer doesn't in any way cover software. Not even Windows. I'll run the CClean, Hopper, and hope for the best, but this runs so deep, it may only be fixed by a complete wipe of Windows. Saving my files will cost more than the wipe and reinstall of Windows XP. Sigh. Best Buy is open till 10 tonight, so I'll take it in about 9:30. It'll be like leaving an arm or a leg with the Geek Squad.
At work the IT people ghost everyone's systems, copying whole Window's installs with every program the techs need to do their job. I just worry that if I have Window's reinstalled, then put all my stuff back on it, if this is a virus, I'll be right back where I started.
Hopper, I had already uninstalled Norton and installed Zone Alarm, when I last wrote. The software has a lot of people praising it to the heavens. I didn't get System Works when I got Norton Internet Security w/antivirus 2005. I had it on my 98 SE computer and it trashed it. I'd had no trouble whatsoever until I ran Norton's defrag. After that poor old 98 wanted to scan disk at every boot up, and kept coming up in safe mode. I ended up getting another harddrive, since the old one now had bad sectors all over the place. It probably wasn't Norton's fault, but you know who hard it is not to associate bad experiences with what came just before.
But the price shouldn't be too bad and I'll be so glad to have a system that works again. Of course, I'm still drooling all over the new computers. There's one that cost about the same as this one, $599 (after $600 in rebates, and I got every cent back) which has a gig of DDRAM, 200 gig harddrive, and 3600 AMD processor. Mine is 2600. It also comes with the new Windows Media Center. I just cannot justify buying one now, but oh how it tempts me.
imhsn, you're getting all the issues now that we've been fighting. I forgot to tell you that I wrote the LW Pro support about a month ago now and they never responded. That doesn't mean they won't respond to your queries, of course, but I don't want you to get your hopes too high. I had Pro from the beginning and it ran wonderfully until I upgraded to 30. But I've noticed LW is sitting at "excellent" connection when I leave the computer for a while, which isn't so bad. What was bad today was that it had disconnected while out I running errands. I've been trying to get a copy of a rather large file now for three days and it's just now hit 73%. I may lose all that if Best Buy has to get drastic.
Well, I need to finish packing for my trip and I want to check out the two links Hopper sent me, too. So I'll say goodnight from Santa Maria and wish you all a great week and an even better weekend. Talk to you next Monday, if my computer is back from the shop by then.

hopper393 November 2nd, 2005 06:55 PM

reformatting isnt that big of deal......just the lose of files that you dont want to back up because may have something......
you know you can pick up a 200 gig from tiger direct fo under 100....300 gigs just a bit higher...they been running some good deals at tiger direct on line....
my system is a P4 3200....daul channel with four sticks of 256...which ads up to 1024....i can max it out to 4 gig... an IS7-E intel mother....80 gig master HD with my OP system and a 200 gig slave drive just a fileing cab....
so am I to beleive that at work your around a bunch of tech too...hehehe...get one of them to go to maxtor.com and get you a wipe image from there.....and burn it to cd useing nero vision express....and show you how to use it....basically you boot off of it the first time and use it to clean your drive completely ....then you you boot again and install your OP on fresh....clean drive...

Its called power max and they can find it at maxtor .com....but you need someone who knows how to use it to do it....i have only done it a couple times myself......but had someone on phone walking me through it....the tech from cyber power...which is where i got my little toy....and if your wanting a media system look there too....hehehe.....mainly gameing system though....
anyway love take care....as i am after one file and so far only gotr bad ones of it......Bewitchd....so far have brought done 4 differant files ....and still haven't got the real one yet...

Wish I knew where no man's land is, then if it was close I'd have you help me with my computer. Isn't that nice of me? No, I wouldn't do that to you, Hopper. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't, anyway. Heh-heh!
Oh, man, I went to that CClean site you turned me on to and they put me through the ringer a couple of times. I can't believe they call it freeware when they want your life history and your first born child before they'll give it to you free. I didn't make it past the second "questionaire," one of four sites I had to choose from. None of them were any good, so I picked the "get cash when you need it!" type rip off place.
Their stupid form wouldn't recognize that I'd filled in My Monthly Income slot. What nerve to ask me things like that, but I'd gotten that far, albeit resentfully, and figured I'd play the game, since you said the software was excellent. So when I realized I wasn't going to get the last form completed, I sent them a very nasty email telling them just what I thought of them and their "free" software. Arrrrggggg!
Anyway, being a bit flustered, I dumped a cup of coffee on my keyboard, having set it where I never do--on the shelf above the keyboard. I grabbed it up and set it back on the shelf and toppled it over again onto the keyboard. That didn't do much for my mood, I'll tell you. Luckily, this keyboard is fairly well sealed. I used a can of air to blow out what I could. It's working, so far. You won't believe this, but one of the best geek techs at work helped me get this newer keyboard. I had spilled a cup of coffee on the old one and he told me to rinse it off in the sink, spray it down good and let it dry. I was aghast at the idea, but he's a heck of lot smarter than me. Well, that was the end of that keyboard. He is so smart, but I know now to follow my instincts because he has some goofy ideas as well as fantastic ones. He's very very smart, but not got much social skills.
Now I'm jealous of your system. What a monster it must be! All bulging muscles! Do you game a lot? If so, what games? Mr. Smarty of keyboard fame plays in the Star Wars Galaxy or Universe, I can't remember. But he's regaled me with fascinating tales of his factories that make armour, and how he has to get the raw materials from dangerous places, etc, but sells the armour for a small fortune to other players. Wow, that's wild.
Anyway, I'm just making sure the keyboard worked. I have to dismantle all the cables again and get this cpu to Best Buy. When I was disconnecting everything earlier, I almost burned my wrist and forearm leaning it against the top of the tower. I don't think it should run that hot. I'm going to have the techies check my fans.
Going to miss my friends on the forum, though I haven't heard from Sarge and Grandpa in ages. Like before, have a great week and such. I'll be back to catch up on everything Monday. Now be good!

Well, well, well. Guess what? I found an email with the download page. I downloaded the Cleaner and ran it. It's a strange bit of business, and I'm really not sure what it's doing. But I opened Windows Explorer after and clicked on this and that quickly trying to get it to error out. It didn't. So here it's past time to take the computer in to Best Buy. You have renewed my hope that this may be dealt with at a home level.
As for CClean, it took me a while to run the set up wizard--lots of cookies to pick out of the myriad cookie list.
I wasn't at all sure what it meant by having me create bogus file names so "they" won't think I'm trying to hide something. What on earth does that mean? I did it because it said to. I was a little worried when it had me go through and select files to save along several paths. Once I was done, I rushed to open folders that have my unpublished (and un-backed up) short stories and novel chapters. They were still there. Only my MemoryMonster was missing from the sys tray. But it was in program files, so that was cool. I point my cursor at the icon in the sys tray and it tells me how much memory is still in reserve. Cool, I like it. Came from WinBoost, which I paid for, but have only installed the memory part.
So anyway, I have my computer to play with still, though I have to get up at 2:30 and it's 10:30 already. I need yo get some sleep here soon.
It was great to hear from Grandpa, but it sounds like they are working him far too hard. Of course, if it's a chance to build up a financial safety net, I'd be working the same hours and happily. I'm going to go for the spelling program myself. And I would love to find a real online dictionary someday. And maybe one for techies, too, because I have to get the meaning of so many words by how they're used, in context. And when the whole sentence is way over my head, I'm lost.
But all is well, since I was able to get CClean. Are people allowed to take a free software and use it to force people to put themselves out there for advertising phone calls and such? They even wanted my work phone number. Outrageous! I did the 555 one, but it didn't like that, so I added some odd numbers in there to get it to go through. And I gave them a wrong home phone number too. If they email me, I'll mark it junk mail and that will be that.
I hate being marked for a sucker. Which I am, unfortunately, but I dont like folks like that knowing it.
Why can't I write a normal length reply? I just have so much to say. I could use an editor, I think. Get ideas down to the bare bones. Which reminds me, have you ever gone to barebones.com? They really offer low prices for computer goodies so you can build the computer of your dreams. Someday...
Grandpa is probably having sweet dreams right now.
I have access to a satellite feed computer in Baja, so I may sign on to Hotmail, so I can link to the forum.
I've said good bye, good night, sleep tight four times tonight. Could this finally be the real thing? It has to be.
Thank you, Hopper, for turning me on to CClean. And so many other things. I still want to know what games you play and how into it you are. I've dreamt of gaming, but I already spend so much time on computers, between work and home. I just might never get off the computer at all, if I found a game that really grabbed me.
Enough already. I'm heading to bed. 'Night all!

Is there any help out there????

BILL

Grandpa November 12th, 2005 04:06 PM

How many files do you have that are searching for sources when you connect to the net.

wmpete November 12th, 2005 07:01 PM

about 30 to 40

after i posted the last it connected at turbo for about 1/2 hr then disconnected. I reconnected but the best i've got is fair to good then disconnect again and again.
Thought if i search while it downloads i'd keep the connection but it won't. It's been downloading alright a few files at a time but it won't connect so I can search when I want to.

Bill

Grandpa November 13th, 2005 02:21 AM

You need to lower the number of files it is searching for and DL you are probably overloading your connection and causing it to become unstable. Try drooping the # of simultaneous searches and DL to 3 see how LimeWire preforms. If it does ok you can increase it until it becomes unstable again then drop it back a little until you find a # that works for you.

wmpete November 13th, 2005 08:42 AM

when I said 30 to 40 that was found files waiting to download not (options / download / Max downloads) that I had set to 10 but lowered it to 3 per your instructions.

Well deleted all the files i was downloading except 23. changed my max downloads from 10 to 3 then tried to connect again went to turbo then went for 1 hr then disconnected and now has started up as poor only after I went to search for more files.

Is this the way I understand that Limewire has been changed to work If I'm not searching it will go to sleep but still download files that I have in my waiting files but only upto your max downloads.

Bill

Grandpa November 13th, 2005 09:30 AM

Yes as I understand it.

But the files that you have clicked for DL that are searching for sources will affect the stability of your connection they are using up bandwidth searching for sources it is better to complete a DL then start searches for new DL after they complete.

FireStormZX November 13th, 2005 09:47 AM

This happens to me too :( , its gotta be something on the network or something because no P2P program works and i just get unstable connections for all of them. I reformated a computer completely to just stock windowsXP home edition first thing i did was download and install LimeWire does the same thing. Configured my router as much as i possibly know and still nothing. I used to use P2Ps for years and now i just get an unstable connection which i cannot even search with, let alone download anything.

Grandpa November 13th, 2005 10:31 AM

It has nothing to do with the network there are literally 100'S of thousands of people using the Gnutella net at any given moment with no problems. The problem may be with your ISP, your Router,Firewalls, Connection, etc. etc. etc. There are post in this forum that ask for specific information and test to preform from people that are having problems obviously wmpete did a little reading before he / she posted and supplied the needed information thus the response.

You on the other hand obviously have not. And if you did you have determined that it is LimeWires fault and not your set up. So I guessing you are making a statement which is false and do not need any help.

FireStormZX November 13th, 2005 12:25 PM

haha im not dissing the network or anything, im just saying maybe the network is keeping me only out or something, I dunno, all i know is my configuration has been good for like 2 years and now all of a suddenly I can't connect and I have done number after numbers of things to fix it.

Grandpa November 13th, 2005 01:31 PM

If it worked for years and quit all of the sudden there is a good chance your ISP has started blocking or limiting P2P networks. The link below may help allot of ISP have started doing this recently. They will give all kinds of reasons security, legality,to much bandwidth etc.

http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=33712

You can look at the Stickies in the connection problems sections of this forum for answers on ways to get around this such as using other port, change ISP, etc.

FireStormZX November 13th, 2005 03:30 PM

I have looked up on this as well, although it seems that the ISP must have had blocked all people with broad band conenctions because my friend with Dial-Up with the same ISP and it works, but me and my other friend with broad band have unstable connections.

Grandpa November 13th, 2005 03:46 PM

You might want to try other ports that seems to work for some people although I do not know which ports. You might want to check out the correspondence between spcyg2003 and myself in the link below and maybe make a post asking spcyg2003 which fix he used. page 41 & 42

http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...&pagenumber=41

ldeanjames November 13th, 2005 11:31 PM

Hi Gang!
Has anyone checked out all the threads about the disconnecting issue? Just browsed through the titles and the last ones are pointing to Norton as the culprit.
Guess what? I got mad at Norton's ccApp in my processes because it was hogging 150 megs of RAM from the git-go, so I wiped it completely off my system, wrote them a nasty email, and installed Zone Alarm.
Limewire never disconnects on me now. Cool, huh?
There may be other factors involved, like the fact that I got tired of trying to make my little eMachine do far more than it was capable of and got myself a new computer. I was having other issues besides LW, and this was probably a rather expensive way of fixing my issues, but if I had all the money back that I spent on "fix it" programs in the last couple of months, I could have bought a really massive system or paid cash for this one.
As it is, I'm very happy with my new baby, though I had to learn far more about networking than I ever wanted to just to get my files off the old machine.
Anyway, I'd give the Norton Uninstall fix a try. You can get ZoneAlarm on a trial basis (along with probably most other firewall/anti-virus programs.) I found a great site and bought ZA for 30 bucks, no shipping, no handling..if anyone's interested.
Oh, Hopper. I did get that download alright and it's a sweet little program. I'm going to put it on my new system, too. But it didn't fix my explorer issue. I think nothing short of an OS reinstall will fix that, which is what I'm going to do once I've searched out all the stuff I want to bring over. A nice clean system is easier to sell and I don't want anyone messing with my stuff.
Oh, did you read about the murderer who got caught because he sold his old computer and forgot to wipe some rather incriminating files? Whoops...
And before this becomes another novel, I'll quit. Hope everyone's problems are being resolved. I had a great time in Baja, and maybe found a place to live ten yards from the ocean, which would be so fantastic. Just have to dig up all the change out of the sofas till I've got $25,000. Camp space rental is only $218 a month. After living in an area where you can't get a one bedroom dwelling for under a thou, that seems cheap to me, if not to anyone else.
Bye all,

Grandpa November 14th, 2005 09:02 PM

ldeanjames

Please tell me you bought Zone Alarm Pro or another version of upgraded Zone Alarm because basic firewall is free. I am guessing you bought Pro.

http://www.zonelabs.com/store/conten..._freedownloads

ldeanjames November 15th, 2005 07:07 PM

Well,
The cd just says Zone Alarm Secuity Suite. I'm gonna be ticked if I paid for something I could have gotten free...
Zone Alarm's a bit annoying, simply because I'm used to Norton. I may reinstall Norton now that I have enough RAM to go around. Or maybe not, since you never have enough RAM.
Was there a reason for your question? Is there something about ZA I need to know?
Oh, by the way, LW disconnected on me last night, but since I found out my NIC had also disappeared, it probably wasn't LW's fault. No amount of troubleshooting worked, even after I restored it to yesterday. My NIC showed up, but couldn't get me an IP address noway, nohow. So I backed it up to Sunday and I'm fine, at least until I need a new IP address. I should take this computer back to Best Buy and rattle their cage, but the darn thing is soooo heavy. I'll just wait until my energy's restored. But I'm miffed because I shouldn't be having these issues on new machines, HP or Gateway. Never did on my eMachine, not until recently and I was pushing the little critter hard.
Sigh.
Hope all is well with everyone. There's a new virus out that messes with your communications (what else?) and at first we thought that was what I had. It wasn't, but that's scary. It's something that Windows lets through and they're supposed to have a fix. Think I'll cruise over there and download it, just in case.
Later...

Grandpa November 15th, 2005 07:43 PM

I was just curious you didn't mention what version you got and the basic version is free. And no I do not know of anything wrong with Zone Alarm although I do prefer Norton all Anti Viruses and Firewalls will at one time or another miss new viruses. When a new virus comes out there is no defense against it until it is discovered and a fix is written for it.

ldeanjames November 15th, 2005 10:26 PM

I understand what you're saying. It's the tech support people who run into it first and have to find a work around until Microsoft or someone comes up with a fix. I checked the ms site and they had nothing new there for viruses. I'll just hope for the best.
And I'm thinking Norton is the way to go. I've always liked its firewall and virus scanner. Norton Works I'm not thrilled with, but I have so many other ways to scan and clean and defrag that I don't have to pay for that too.
Well, time to sleep. I'm still scratching my head over hooking up the TV tuner, but I'll get it done eventually. Then I can really go to town copying my favs. Oh, I installed Nero's new plaything called Project Neon. It's supposed allow me to talk and share with anyone, anytime. If some others try it out, it might be fun to have the ability.
Talk at ya later--

FireStormZX November 19th, 2005 08:42 AM

i used CommView to see what exactly was happening and i see alot of random connections comeup for LimeWire but no packets are being sent. And sometiems a bunch of connections will emerge but they will all dissapear in a second... I think my connection is being filtered somehow...

Howdy all,
Hey there, Firestorm. I just went back through a bunch of the earlier replies in this thread. I was hoping to find out some info on your system. No such luck. Could you let me know what security you're running, Norton, McAfee, etc.? Firewall? How do you connect to the internet, dial up or dsl or faster?
I'm beginning to realize just how different everyone's computer is. I mean, they come off the assembly line, fairly alike, but certainly not blue-printed. The moment we get it home, it all becomes different in a thousand subtle and not so subtle ways.
Every program has its say, nudges this other program for some room, some shared files, this and that. How on earth can we really troubleshoot a system we can't look at?
I know you guys can, and I've done my share at work, but sometimes it takes hours to locate that one tiny glitch, like the program that wants to rewrite the program you're using's ini file. Teensy change, huge mess.
But it does sound a lot like a firewall issue, Firestorm. Which firewall is that? Maybe it's one I've played with before, or Grandpa or Hopper and the others have.
Wouldn't PC Anywhere be fun, if you could trust the user.
Well, good luck.

I doubt its a firewall issue because I've tried configuring mine up the wall, and ive removed all my firewalls and tried... But I am using ZoneAlarm, but I really think it is just a matter of my ISP, becuase my friend with the same Wireless Broadband Connection had the same problem exactly when I did, and weve been using Limewire for a very long time and we have two completely differently configured computers. I'm just gonna call my ISP and ask them if they are blocking any ports.
THanks tho.

Sir Firestorm (and everyone else,)
I sure was hoping this issue would resolve itself. The man (and woman) hours spent on this has proven expensive.
Firestorm: Have you reinstalled your nic driver? Do you have any other connection issues besides LimeWire?
I took back my HP and traded it for a Gateway. It's worse than the HP. The local Geek Squad is trying to tell me that I messed everything up by installing a network connection using a crossover cable. Funny, I read the manual and never saw the paragraph on how you must never create a network using a crossover cable. The network connection wizard even had a selection for a direct connect network.
For over a week, almost everytime I shut down the computer, it would reload without a nic. Just gone, poof! I would have to restore Windows to an earlier date. I'd have a connection then, but all the software I'd installed would have to be installed again. Norton finally refused to install at all. I'm stuck with Zone Alarm for the time being. I was finally able to reinstall the network card driver and things have been better on that front. I got to get into my email and sort through 48 messages.
I would reinstall my nic, Firestorm, even if you're connecting outside of LW. There's bound to be some corruption in there.
I got to finally reinstall the computer cleaner software and it had some fixing to do. Thanks Hopper for turning me on to that.
Well, for those in the U.S. hope you didn't eat too much turkey. I'm gearing up for the Friday sales, got my penny jar out and everything. Some of the stores open at 5 a.m. and there's a line around the block by 4. Crazy!
See you all around.

I had problems with me losing internet connection - after a while I was just losing my internet connection (couldn't connect anywhere) even though I'm on broadband.

This was resolved when I reduced my number of simultaneous uploads - it was up at 20 and I reduced it down to 7. If you have a lot of other software (you maybe using other clients too?) then reduce it further. That might resolve the problem for you too.

At the end of the day, if it's 7 then some users have to wait a while but they'll get a faster transfer when they finally do because they won't be sharing it with so many other users.

Gee Whiz!

Thank you Master Purple,
(Been a long time since I visited this thread or any other.) I had a mechanic boyfriend who told me to always check the easy things first, test them one by one before going on to the things that need a dismantling of the engine.
You've proven it here, Earl. We've been tearing our hair out over this issue for some time, and since I returned with a functioning computer and downloaded the latest version of Limewire, (and I have to download it again on still another new machine) it didn't seem to be doing any better. I forget now, since it's been awhile, but there was something else about the new version that didn't please me.
LW installs with a default of 20 uploaders or uploads per person, not sure on that. I had it set at 10 on the old computer for no other reason than I was messing with the preferences. Even with only 10 sometimes they're sharing 15 kpps. That's mighty slow. And my downloads were miserably slow or non existent on the new HP that I had for three days. But I was grabbing 10 or more of those 'loads at one time. Just piggy and ended up paying for it.
We were trying everything under the sun, but aiming too high, I think:
I bought a new 512 stick of RAM for my 'puter, which helped everything but LW. I changed firewalls to get rid of that memory hog ccApp. Finally I just bought a new heftier machine, which I needed if I wanted to goof around on the Internet as I was.
Two new computers and both gave me nothing but grief, first the HP and then a GW. I'm back to eMachines with not much more processor speed, but lots of RAM and 2000 BUS somethings. Oh, I'm so technical. The guy at Best Buy said it was like getting a highway with 2000 lanes instead of 800. More room to send more data. Hope that isn't just B.S.
When I install LimeWire again, I'm going to keep the ups and downs under control. Right now, the new machine, which hasn't been loaded down with things stashed in the startup, is a quick little bunny. I'm going to do my best not to overload my machine with hidden startup programs. I like having them jump right to attention when I click on the icon, but better a slower start so they can all play nicely together.
Thank you so much Earl. You are wise.
Hope everyone's holiday's were just too much fun.

I haven't gotten any messages but yesterday I was trying to download some songs and once again I noticed that the Limewire connection has failed and there wasn't one. It is still the same way right now ( 11:24 AM Central U.S. time ). If you have any solutions to this problem please let me know. Thank you.

. OS version? XP home
2. What firewalls you have? Windows
3. How much ram? 1G
4. Hard Disk space available? 46G of 82G
5. Connection type? Cable
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Modem is Motorola 515291, No router atm
7. Where are you trying to connect from? House
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? 4.12.4 pro, java 1.6
9. Who is your ISP provider? Shawcable
10. Do this simple test for us. "Your test worked!"
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? No
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. Experienced
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? No

Put the information there just in case it will help you weed out the problem..

Connection drops out every so often and its obviously a new thing which started, umm, can't pin point the day, but a few weeks now anyway...

Few observationsive had with this issue.. Now bare with me, im not to computer savy...
--It disconnects more often when Shaw is throttling during peek hours(evenings in general)..
--It disconnects more often when i happen to be downloading lets just say one file at a fairly low speed (for what ever reason)..
--It Doesn't Ever disconnect even with little data flow activity if im moving around within limewire with the mouse..(this is the reason i waited so long to post, i been asuming/suspecting it was my PC, Modem or LAN was going into some sort of suspention/sleep/whatever, but never could find a problem with those.. can sustain 14 days straight in Everquest, but Limewire disconnects randomly? /shrug)
--Limewire when it does disconnect because i was away from the PC for a period of time or i had it in minimized doing other things surfing the net/games/whatever, as soon as i open it again and click within the program, it reconnects itself..

All that said, It doesn't seem to disconnect for me at all when im downloading a few large files at peek bandwith speeds even if i been away from the PC for hours on end.. but once the files are done, or there is just one last file left and its downloading a little slower it will disconnect... not uncommon for me at all to wake up the next morning and find one large file not done and Limewire disconnected....

Ok i think ive rambled on enough

Disconnecting

I am having the same problem and I am a new user.. how do I get my money back? Maybe I will stop payment on the card

birdy April 23rd, 2007 03:50 PM

LW don't offer refunds on Pro...because LW basic's free to try for as long as you like.

You could try to solve your disconnecting problem:blink:

Have you searched the forum to see if there are threads to help? What fixes have you tried?
