2. http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=47310 3. Idle mode: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=32303 It doesn't affect downlds just reduces unnecessary connections such as for searching when you're obviously not around to do a search, & thus offers an offering for someone trying to connect to the network. From my experience idle mode has not affected my downlds whatsoever!!! Sure some downlds go thru periods of lower than expected speeds but that's expected & most times my speeds in idle mode have been identical to active mode. |
Grandma... I used kaaza a while back...the old style free version..then went to Imesh then here to lime...been running lime wire for almost 8 months...never did the paid version of kaaza...but know this I have tried and tried to get it out of my registery and still haven't been able to...I have used win clean 2000 ...mechanic and even tried to delete it on my own in my registry and it still shows up..my spynuker in safe mode can't get rid of it either...I have reformatted this computor a few times too...and still have that bundle mag ......anyway ...hope you like the paid version of kaaza..me I am going to fight with Lime wire a little longer..but as i mentioned befor I also have the paid version of eDonkey too...as for haveing problems with your avi files ...you going to find that everywhere....or atleast i have....but let me turn you onto another site for software to change those files with free software and codec's....and some trail software...plus if you will log in....there is some real good forms and help for learning how to use the software......its called afterdawn .....its a burner and ripper heaven...hehehe...with a lot of free incodeing software...and if you look the forums over you will also find direstions on how to use the software you want .... http://www.afterdawn.com/software/index.cfm maybe this site will help you make some of those avi files play...or convert them to another format you can play.... you will find tools here that will tell you what format the video is in and then what format the audio is in...and so on...that way you got an idea of what you need to do to it to burn it to play... take care and good luck... just an old highway tramp -----Bill---- |
Afterdawn is a good forum. A member myself! |
Okay. I was going to mess around, reinstall Kazaa. (I'd uninstalled it when I realized it didn't come close to LimeWire in just about anything. So here I am still messing with LW, even upgraded to 37, and it tends to spend more time in turbo charged, but still goes to sleep, now and again. I did finally realize that it was still downloading at a snail's pace while it slept, (a software version of snoring?) and I tend to wake up in the middle of my night and get up to jiggle the mouse, to wake up LW, too. It hasn't disconnected completely so far, unlike 30 and 33. "They" must have had a reason to program LW to fall asleep, one of those "It seemed a good idea at the time." Weird thing is that under properties now, it's saying I have version 1,0,0,2. That's the main reason I upgraded, thinking a fresh install would get the correct version to show. It didn't though, but LW "seems" to be working as usual. I appreciate the pointer to other threads with info on misnamed files (I'm guessing.) Maybe I'll find something to do about it. The one today was supposed to be another "Crash." The first and biggest hint was that it downloaded to 100% in minutes while supposedly 698 MBs. It was an ad for a "fun" website. Does this non-person really think I'll go to his site? He's dummer than I am. So I'm happily downloading another Crash and another Madagascar, though I couldn't preview them, got the codecs missing message. So I'm also slap happily downloading every codec and plug in that says it will help avi files to play, so maybe I'll get it right by accident. Don't worry, I'm being careful. Thanks again everyone. I may get frustrated and even angry sometimes, but LimeWire has given me hours and hours of entertainment. That's what it's all about, right? |
Got a Question grandma....did you completely uninstall lime befor you installed the new...?? then did you also wipe the extra folders left behind.....then run a regestery cleaner to get rid of the commands....you know basically do a fresh clean install.... I installed the 37 this morning...and havent had no problems yet.. but have either had launchcast radio playing or my nero show time loaded with play list...and really havent been away long enough to let mine go into sleep mode... just an old highway tramp ----Bill--- |
same problem here, but still get my downloads finished I receive that stupid little message of limewire currently connecting to the internet or NOT connected to the internet. Well after i receive that message i do nothing. When Limewire is CONNECTED to the internet i get enough time to get ALL the downloads i want. After awhile that message pops up and i just ignore it and go to sleep. I wake up in the morning and BAM!!!!! MY DOWNLOADS ARE FINISHED and limewire IS YET FULLY CONNECTED. I dont' know what happens through out the night but i get my downloads FINISHED. Just tought of letting you all know. I also run Windows XP with all it's updates, use AOL and connect via DIAL-UP. My laptop is about 2 years old and it's a compaq. |
No, I was a bad girl and just let the new install wipe out the previous version. It's a lot better about staying awake longer, but I just may do a total wipe, including reg keys, if yours turns out to behave better. Want to hear something really weird? At 7 this morning, I woke LW up, after which it completely disconnected itself and I had to reconnect. When I did connect, I had three movie downloads of mine going and one upload. At the bottom of my screen the KB/s went wild. It usually runs between 1 KB/s and 19 for downloads, less for uploads. This morning, my downloads were splitting 1,400 KB/s between them. I thought it was just a glitch, but the percentages of the downloads were jumping upwards by two and three percent a minute. Sadly, it's now doing it's normal thing, except the uploads are higher than my downloads. They're splitting them between 8, while I only have one left to finish, and it's at 98% already. Sure wish I knew how my system got such a great kick in the behind there for awhile, so I could get it to do it again. I also spent an hour or two downloading more plugins and codecs last night. Everyone of the three downloads I was doing failed in the preview due to missing codecs. This was on the Windows Media Player. I can try them on the other players now that they've gone into my video folder. What a pain. I wonder if having the Media Player 10 could be causing this? Oh, well, old story with no happy ending in sight yet. If anyone finally gets a hold on a fix, please let me know. Thanks! |
Wow! On a dial up connection? That's fantastic! I've got DSL and I used to have my downloads finished by morning, but not anymore. Did you say you were on 4.9.30 or 33? When mine goes to sleep, it's still working, but at 1 and 2 or 3 KB/s. It takes a long time to get a 700 MB movie downloaded with that, at least on my poor system. I just ordered another 512 DDRAM to put in my system. I don't know if more resources will help or not, but I can always hope. Happy downloading! |
Well i use Limewire 4.9.11 and the downloads i'm talking about is the SONGS. Now about the VIDEOS they some of them are only half way through or still bearly downloading cuz of the dial-up connection. |
Grandma Well when i laid down this morning i had both running lime and edonkey....lime .37 woke up to the not conected ..but yet they were running....now those crazy readings your talking about i use to get them on the 30 abd the 33...plus sometimes a gray screen...that wouldn't close to the tray...but would minimize..and open to gray ..but if let run a while would starighten out on its own....per grandpa advive i uninstalled my java 1.5 and went with the 1.4 from sun....and what it was ...I have a accelerated graphics card in.... think it was in this thread....scroll back up to the top or start of this thread and you will see where he told me since i changed my java ....no more of those wild speeds nor the gray screen...... let me know if you see where he told me about it... Take care... just an old highway tramp -----Bill----- |
