Thanx for reply Birdy...seems like you have been down this road b4 and had success helping others. I would be grateful if that was the case again.

History:
I am working on a PC with a T1 connection at my remote office. I utilize Cisco to connect to my server in corp but do not utilize this utility when accessing LW. I started by d/l'ng LW 4.12.4 and it worked right off the bat. Then about four days into it, the globe came up and would not connect when searching. I upgraded to version 6, then confirmed Gnutella ports using the customized number that was listed when walking through the process, confirmed access exception at Win Security Center - Firewall options. I am stuck...Maybe one of our jedi warrior administrators for the company (tech oriented co) messed it up and blocked it out all of a sudden?

How do I check what other firewalls are blocking LW currently? I run PC / Windows XP Pro / LW4.12.6 / Cisco Pix 506 E Firewall VPN / Verizon T1

I think I now have port forwarding and UpNP enabled...neither seem to be working.

Any clue?

If you're connecting from work, you might find that the company has an anti-p2p policy & won't let you connect. Lots of employers do this just because they don't want employees sharing (often inadvertantly) sensitive files. You're really going to have to talk to admin & find out what the policy is. I'd also ask them if they've recently blocked anything.

I'm a bit confused re your firewalls. You've got a Cisco firewall but you said that you don't utilise this utility when accessing LW... do you turn off the Cisco firewall before you open LW?
You'll run into problems if you're using 2 software firewalls, they'll just interfere with each other. So, if you're going to run the Cisco firewall, turn the XP one off.

Do you see any green connection bars at all? Did you do that port test? If the test doesn't work, it means that LW's default port is blocked.

U fly high Birdy!

Thanks for the detail and continued support.

I did speak with an administrator behind the green curtain and he said it is against our company security policy to allow p2p.

In response to your port probing, there are no green bars lit up anymore (was for a few days). How do I check to see if my port is blocked again? I am going to walk through that scenario one more time and see if I luck out.

thanX,

corprate or office router setups

This is for people wondering about what type of port forwarding to use on office or corprate router, there are three types port fowarding port triggering, externel port forwarding, upnp forwarding. If your confused well the answere is to use Upnp port forwarding on this type of setup. Every router might have these named slightly diffrent and may have few more options but Upnp port forwarding works best, even when not using Upnp setups. good luck!!!!

OS - Windows xp
LW & Java version - 4.12.6 & 1.5.0_06
Firewall you're using - How do you determine this?
Modem/router brand & model - Toshiba Cable Modem
ISP - ???
Connection type - Cable
Where you connect from -Home
Are you sharing a connection with other computers - NO
Is this your first try with LW - NO I have had previous versions over the last 3years

HELP ME PLEASE. I CAN CONNECT AND THEN NOTHING, THEN IT CONNECTS, THEN IT WILL SEARCH BUT WILL LITTLE RESULTS, THEN SEARCH SOMETHING ELSE AND GET NO RESULTS BECAUSE THE CONNECTION HAS FAILED THEN i GET FULL GREEN BARS(full connection) BUT STILL NO SEARCHING OR DOWNLOADING. THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN IT WILL START DOWNLOADING THEN 10 MINUTES LATER THE PROCESS ALL OVER AGAIN. WHEN I SHUT IT DOWN IT IS WORSE WHEN I RESTART.
