I have currently have 2005 Norton SystemWorks Premier installed and have recently downloaded the latest version of Limewire Pro, when I open Limewire, Norton comes up with "Norton Internet worm protection has detected a remote system that is attempting to access your computer" Permit or block. Note, this has never happened before in the 2/3 years I have had Limewire

First of all, I have set up Norton worm to accept limewire but it still comes up with this message. If I click permit it comes up again and again at least 16 times until it stops, each port address is different. If I close Limewire completely this note still pops up.

I also have Ad-Aware, NoAdware, Xoftspy and Windows defender installed. I have run each of these and also Norton to get rid of any potential worms but when connecting to Limewire this message still keeps on coming.

As a test, I closed the worm protection on Norton and opened Limewire to see what happens and hooray, no pop up's, so I assume it's a Norton issue.

Finally, on a different subject and possibly connected, when I'm using Google to search for something, when I click on a website it doesn't always connect to that site first time, it connects to a different site on a couple of occasions, anybody else ever had this.

If anybody can offer any solutions to my problems I would be very grateful.

I've read your post and found some of it very interesting, more later. First, I'd like to mention that turning off worm protection solves the Norton pop-up problem but could leave your PC vulnerable to other things that you may be unaware of.

Let me explain, whenever you run LW, as you know, you open several connection ports on your PC and these ports are attacked by various bots, worms, etc. In other words, you not only get your downloads and send uploads you also attract all sorts of potential trouble listening out for and jumping into ports open by P2P apps.

So I believe your safest bet would be to reconfigure Norton as previously advised.

OK, now the interesting stuff, you have several anti-spyware apps running on your PC:Ad-Aware is well respected, NoAdware has a more dubious beginning: This product may now be clean but I don’t believe “a leopard can change its spots”.
As for Xoftspy, this was Spyware Warrior’s opinion in April 2004: I have no comment on Windows Defender as this product is unlikely to have the same problems as Xoftspy or NoAdware.

Thanks for your help and also the interesting comments on spyware. As I have paid out the one time fee's for these spyware, I may as well use them. When I've run one type of spyware and cleared the bugs out, I have always find something to delete when I run the other type which is the main reason I wanted more than one.

With regard to turning off Norton worm protection, that was only done to confirm whether it was Norton or Limewire problem, I wouldn't run it without and have in fact hidden the Limewire shortcut from the kids to stop them using it whilst I'm sorting the problems out.

When I get home I will re-configure Norton as advised and will report back.

I don't know how good Windows Defender is, but I can tell you that it is a major resource hog. I tried it for a few weeks and after uninstalling it the PC suddenly was twice as fast. This is not exaggerated.

BTW does Norton not give anymore info on what the program trying to access your system is trying to do ?

P.S. I'm still having problems searching on google whereby I search and get a list of sites then it doesn't always go straight to my selected site at the first and sometimes second attempt but never more than three times. Do any of you clever computer chappies know the answer.

It's probably just some adware that got into your cookies/temperary Internet Files. Try downloading and running CCleaner. The default settings for cleaning should be enough.

That did the trick. I was having endless amounts of grief over this problem. I kept looking for some grand answer that would take quantum physics to resolve and all it took was the use of the delete key!. Ive been told a million times to start with the simple answers first and then work your way up. What can I say I think too much. Anyway thank you again!
