well i just did a destructive system recovery and didnt install the norton internet security yet, and turned my windows firewall on allowing limewire, i installed limewire and windows firewall asks to unblock the limeiwre swarmed installer but says nothing about unblocking limewire itself when i start it

Lord of the Rings January 17th, 2007 03:56 AM

Hmm did you reconfigure the firewall; Firewall configuration instructions (click on link)

jimbo-ice January 17th, 2007 06:14 AM

ya i tried, but it still didnt work, i just went to configure personal firewall and then to the advaned tab, then i clicked general, and scrolled down and saw the block access to secure sites is blocked and block windows file sharing is blocked too, both are check in the small white box on the left too

jimbo-ice January 17th, 2007 01:39 PM

do you guys think that this is even fixable? or is it just a lost cause trying to get limewire connecting on this computer

rufuscodd January 17th, 2007 02:14 PM

I feel for you

I too have been having problems albeit not as bad as yours. Mine have been very intermittent (read my posts if you would like a laugh).

I have just been reading your thread and have been nearly brought to tears. Limewire has been sitting there for 2 hours, one bar, brick wall and no connections. I then read about you and someone else talking about exceptions in Xp firewall, particularly UPnP Framework. Mine isnt ticked so i ticked it, changed LW to UPnP in the options, changed the listening port back to 6346, shut it down, opened it up and hey presto 5 green bars, brick wall and excellent speeds.

You may want to try it. Might work. Might not.

Good luck. i will be following your progress.

jimbo-ice January 17th, 2007 03:23 PM

thx rufuscodd, i will try that in a little bit

jimbo-ice January 17th, 2007 03:39 PM

aww i wasnt so lucky :( didnt work lol

rufuscodd January 17th, 2007 04:03 PM

oh bloody hell. sorry. hope you get it sorted. will keep a look out for your posts

wondering why January 18th, 2007 01:29 AM

I am so out of ideas...I have no idea why you cannot connect to Limewire :(

Why don't you try Frostwire and see how you go with that...:xeri_ok1ani:

If you want to try BearShare, use the version & BearStart utility mentioned here

dude, i had almost the same problem, CALL your ISP and make complaints about that, make sure of having details abut your contract, type of connection, and whatever they could ask for, and then haer waht they got to say.
I had the same problem (slow download speed), and i made complaints, so they dindn't give me the pass for portforwarding, but remotly, they they activated something like DMZ, or anything like it, they sayd, with that activated, the router's firewall will be de-activated, and al traffic will port-forwarded to my pc's static IP....
Maybe asking them for that will solve the problem, and you to de-activate the protection on those ports.
BTW: my ISP makes P2P traffic shapping, but only for giving users time for considering waht they download

jimbo-ice January 18th, 2007 11:46 AM

ok thx for the advice, i might try to get someone from atlantic broadband to come to my house and look at my internet connection or whatever, im not sure its setup right lol

jimbo-ice January 18th, 2007 11:46 AM

oh ya I tried bearshare and had the same problem with connecting :(

Lord of the Rings January 18th, 2007 12:58 PM

The fact no p2p programs have ever worked for you really does sound suspicious.

jimbo-ice January 18th, 2007 01:03 PM

i know, but they worked fine before i got this new computer, i had the same setup on my old one, only reason i got a new one was because of a power surge or something it just fried lots of peoples electronics where i live, including ym old computer tower, im still able to use the speakers and monitor off the old one, just not the tower

Lord of the Rings January 18th, 2007 01:06 PM

Aha ... so it has actually worked at your place before. Just not the same computer. Are you using the same modem/router as earlier? Are you able to connect via dial up at all? I think I asked that much earlier on. Some isp's will allow you to connect via dial up in case their dsl services have problems, etc. Mine does. Come to think of it you couldn't configure the dial up could you. I'm not windows savvy enough to help in that area.

jimbo-ice January 18th, 2007 01:16 PM

well on my old computer when i downloaded limewire i was using earthlink dialup, then switched to atlantic boradband cable a few months later after it was already installed, umm on this computer i got free aol dialup for 3 months, I tried that to see if i could connect and i could, but it made my whole computer that slow even though i had cable internet hooked up lol (probably a mistake on my part setting up the options)

jimbo-ice January 18th, 2007 06:12 PM

yes im using the same modem as my old computer (i think). im not sure what a modem is lol, but i think its this smallblack box that my cable wire and ethernet cables plug into, its a SURFboard one, but yeah its the same one i used on my old computer

wondering why January 18th, 2007 06:18 PM

I still think that Atlantic are blocking you somehow, even though your mate connects fine, is he by chance on a different plan than you...

I had a Motorola surfboard cable modem at my old house and it didn't have a Nat firewall...

Did you buy a brand new computer or a second hand one ??

jimbo-ice January 18th, 2007 06:33 PM

brand new

jimbo-ice January 19th, 2007 03:31 AM

im not sure which plan my friend is on, its more then likely the same as the one we got since they are the ones who got us to get this cable internet

wantsfunforall January 19th, 2007 08:10 AM

Hey i have same problem and i have same comp and i had aol then deleted it and problems started happening around then. i know its just my comp because i use wireless on laptop and others around me get their liomewire working.

Dark Guy January 19th, 2007 10:28 AM

Maybe Atlantic is silently blocking p2P

If they are doing that on random pc's or modems, they are doing that without advice of any kind, talk to them, make your complaints, and try swytching of provider for a while...

jimbo-ice January 20th, 2007 12:21 PM

i read in another thread about s omeone else ahveing the same problems, someone suggested broken wires or something, now I have no idea what they exactly are, but i would guess wires that hook into my modem (cable wire, ethernet cable, etc..) now do u think this could be my problem?

jimbo-ice January 20th, 2007 12:38 PM

ok i was messing around with this and i was on network connections, so i clicked network trouble shooter and noticed that there was a small computer screen type of deal with a little red x/dot next to 'check you dialup modem'. so i clicked it and ran the test and this pc doctor5 ran the tests and the 'modem self testing loopback test ' was no applicable? is this the problem?

InuGamiSama787 January 20th, 2007 02:15 PM

umm, yeah. I used the EvID4226 Patch, for LimeWire PRO, so it works now, but I can only get Excellent Connection, not TurboCharged. any ideas?

jimbo-ice January 20th, 2007 04:41 PM

ok i just downloaded it from the offical site (again) and it seemed to work? but its still downloading pretty slow

birdy January 20th, 2007 07:38 PM

At least it's finally working:xirokrotima:

Well, Atlantic told you that they are throttling p2p connections...so you can expect slow downloads!

jimbo-ice January 20th, 2007 09:01 PM

ok good news then :) i hope it works tommrow when i turn the pc on lol, if it dont ill be back here im sure, thanks for all the help everyone :)
