Well I am having almost the exact same problem.

I'll give you the low down before I get formal with those questions. I've used LW for a few years now and it's always worked great for me, better than Kazaa better than BearShare and I love it. Recently though, around the last 2 months or so, it gave me the same red bars problem and firewall message. Now I went into control panel and network connections to disable the Firewalls but they were already inactive. I also downloaded the Java Runtime Environment 6 and it said offline so I think that was fine to. Still no results and I am not a happy camper.

1.I'm running Windows XP Professional 2002

2.None that I know of. How do I go about finding one other than control panel?

3.512mb

4.A few gigs, more than 3

5.Cable internet around 1mbps

6.I have a SMC Barricade Router (SMC7004VBR) and a crappy Terayon modem

7.Connecting from a house

8.I have LimeWire 4.10.3 and Java 1.6.0

9.Rogers is my ISP

10.The test says it worked

11.I have my modem connected into my router with one cable going from my router to my computer, one to my Xbox 360, one that goes downstairs to a laptop which isn't used very often and that's it.

12.As I said I've used it without a problem for 2 or so years.

13.Yes I do see a brick wall

Thank you to anyone who can help and I promise to send you a box of Ol' Grannies E-Cookies if you can help me out.

Thanks,
-Alen

Your router has a firewall.
Are you using LW with UPnP enabled within your router or a port forwarded?
If you're not...enable UPnP within your router & choose the UPnP option within LW's tools > options > advanced > firewall config. Apply > ok.

If enabling UPnP doesn't help, try port forwarding thru your router. Follow the instructions below & don't forget the step of setting up a static IP address...otherwise pf won't work.
http://www.portforward.com/english/r...R/Limewire.htm
Remember that LW's listening port & a port forwarded MUST be the same number;) Good ports to use are those in the range of 49152 - 65535 (try 64049).

Rather than running without a software firewall, it's better to configure your XP firewall to allow LW.

Well after a long hard process of setting up a static ip and pf limewire (the port number was 55000) it still won't work.

I ended up going on the web-interface for my router (SMC7004VBR) and doing everything it asked but nothing.

I did notice however that UPnP was disabled on my router and when I went to change it to enable it said it already was. Then I disabled and re-enabled and it still doesn't work.

I did use this same router when LW worked prior to these recent troubles.

Any other suggestions?

And I really appreciate the help.

What link?

Either something is wrong on my end or you forgot to post it.

Well yeah that's what I did before to and I tried again and still can't connect.

When I'm on my router's web interface and I'm in the virtual server page and I'm inputting the ports and whatnot should I click "enable" in a check box on the right side?

And it also tells me there should be a next setup page in virtual server but there isn't what do I do?

I'm using an SMC7004VBR if that helps.

Hi, right, having the same problem! I just downloaded LW into this computer, though never had a problem before and those stupid little bars stay red!

1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98,XP.SP2. )? windows XP
2. What firewalls you have? Just Windows Firewall
3. How much ram? 256
4. Hard Disk space available? 15 GB
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)? broadband
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Windstream
7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)? house
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. LW 4.12.11 Java 1.5.0_03
9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)? Windstream
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. page wont open
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. No, not that i know of
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. It's a new problem...i used to use LW on sisters computer, never on this one, just got internet here
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? Yes...firewall...which is odd, i turned it off trying to get LW to work.

HELP ME PLEASE!!!

birdy March 5th, 2007 12:56 AM

Rather than turning off your XP firewall, configure it to allow LW
Firewall setup

Have a look at this thread...the poster emtga2069 had the same kind of prob as you & the port test page also couldn't be displayed. See if you also have a Windstream firewall that's active;)
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...ght=windstream

If that doesn't help, try changing LW's listening port to 64049 (tools > options > advanced > firewall config. Apply > ok to save a change).

Also try to find a brand & model number for your router. If it's brand is Windstream, have a look for the model number...it's possibly another brand that's been re-badged for Windstream.
